Champaign - Mary "Jenny" Genevieve Powell, 100, of Champaign met her Lord on Tuesday (Jan. 13, 2026).
She was born July 15, 1925, in Arcola, the daughter of William Franklin and Ina (McBride) Hemingway. She married Henry Leonard Powell on May 31, 1943, in St. Charles, Mo. He passed away on May 19, 2009.
Jenny is survived by her children, John Powell of Thomasboro, Jansen Powell (Rhonda) of Savoy, Vincent Powell (Jayne) of Fisher, Toni Pottorff of Champaign and Linda Unzicker (Dennis) of Champaign; 13 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Jenny was a homemaker and a wonderful seamstress.
She was a member of Westside Church in Champaign since 1954 and enjoyed reading the Bible. She was also a longtime Chicago Cubs fan. She was a mother and grandmother to many and was loved by all.
Jenny, with her husband, Lee, founded the "Powell Family Music Ministry" in 1966. Her husband purchased a used bus, and the family traveled around the country sharing the gospel with music.
Visitation will be on Friday Jan. 16, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Renner-Wikoff Chapel & Crematory, 1900 S. Philo Road, Urbana. Memorial services will be on Saturday, Jan. 24, at 11 a.m. at Dewey Community Church, 16 Third St., Dewey.
