Christie-Anderes Funeral Home - WatervilleJerald Arthur Meyer, age 80 of Blue Rapids, passed away Saturday, February 21, 2026, at his residence.
He was born on March 23, 1945, in Lexington, Nebraska, the son of William Fredrick and Iva Mae (Firmen) Meyer. He attended schools in Lexington and worked for Monroe Brakes.
He entered the U.S. Navy in 1965 and left for a year and became an officer of the law and then rejoined the Navy until his honorable discharge in 1971. Following his military service, he went to work for Union Pacific Railroad, building bridges, and retired in 1999.
One December 4, 1971, he married Deborah Louise Etter in Elk City, Nebraska. She survives of the home.
In addition to his wife Deborah, he is survived by three daughters: Kim (Craig) Howell of North Platte, Nebraska, and their children, Chris, Zach, and Bella Howell, all of North Platte, Nebraska; Kristi Meyer of Blue Rapids, and her children, Odessa (Zack) Jones of Post Falls, Idaho, Michael (Dani) Chilson of Topeka, and Kaitlyn Chilson of Libby Montana; and Jeannie (David) Carder of Blue Rapids, and their children, Gates (Tyler) Nicholson and daughter Oaklynne of Blue Rapids, and Shyanne (Mason) Schmitz and daughter Noelle Schmitz of Blue Rapids; his honorary grandchildren, Gary and Emily Hutson of Blue Rapids; one sister, Deanna Remmers of Alabama, and many nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents, six brothers, a twin brother, Gerald Allan Meyer, David Meyer, Bob Meyer, Bill Meyer, Harold Meyer and Ronnie Meyer: one sister, Betty Kind, and one niece, Shelly
Cremation is planned with a memorial service to be held at 11:30 am, March 14, 2026, at the Blue Rapids Fire Department, 101 W. 5th Street, Blue Rapids, Kansas 66411.
Memorials may be made to the Church of Christ in Marysville and left in care of the Christie-Anderes Funeral Home, PO Box 61, Waterville, Kansas 66548.
