Don Meyer Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Holland-Coble Funeral Home - Montezuma on Feb. 24, 2026.
Don Meyer, 67 of Deep River, Iowa passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2026 at his home surrounded by his loving wife and children at his side, after a courageous yearlong battle with cancer. Funeral services will be held on Friday, February 27, 2026 at 10:30 am at the Community Hope Church in Montezuma. Burial will be held at the St. John's Cemetery at Victor. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 26, beginning at noon with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the Community Hope Church in Montezuma. Memorials may be directed in Don's name to his family. Holland-Coble Funeral Home of Montezuma is in charge of the arrangements.

Don Ray Meyer was born on May 26, 1958 to Roy and Ilene Meyer. He attended St. John's Lutheran School and graduated from Deep River Millersburg in 1976. Don was united in marriage to Julie Sauter on July 4, 1980 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in North English. He attended William Penn for a couple of years. Don was a man of many talents from the start. In his youth, he was a competitive athlete and star basketball player with many accolades and accomplishments to his name. He was proud to be a farmer and worked the land of the Meyer Century Farm with great care and detail for over 40 years. He was a master fabricator and jack-of-all trades. He was the life of the party; loving to cut loose on the dance floor, sing along to favorite songs, and share memories and laughter with friends and loved ones. He showed great kindness in caring for those around him, especially his mother and mother and father-in-law throughout their lives and was always willing and eager to lend a hand to neighbors.

His greatest accomplishment, however, was that of loving husband, father and grandfather; imparting wisdom between games of catch, free throw shots and casts of fishing rods, attending every sporting event and recital, and offering a listening ear and a bear hug in times of need. He will be remembered for his hard work, goodwill and his fun-loving spirit.

Don is survived by his wife of 45 years, Julie Meyer; a son, Adam (Melissa) Meyer; a daughter, Ashley (Bryan) Buck; three grandchildren, Hailey and Nolan Meyer and Ruby Buck; a brother, Willard (Mary) Meyer, a sister, Susan (Dave) Stevenson; a sister-in-law, Alana Meyer; as well as many other relatives and friends.

Don is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Dennis Meyer and a niece, Danielle Meyer.
