Gerald Wayne "Jere" Bean, age 81, of Winchester, passed away on Thursday, September 25, 2025, at High Point Health in Winchester following complications from respiratory failure.

He was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee, to the late Joe S. Bean and Mary Frances (Kelly) Bean. Jere was a proud graduate of Franklin County High School, where he was an outstanding football player. In 1962, he co-captained a winning team alongside his close friend, Ronnie Pittinger. Following his passion for education, Jere went on to earn his degree from Athens State College in 1973. He devoted several years to teaching at Franklin County High School and South Middle School, where he influenced the lives of many students with his dedication and kindness.

In addition to his parents, Jere was preceded in death by his brother, Daniel Bean, and nephew, Joey Bean. He is survived by his brother, Joe S. (Tabitha) Bean; nephew, Kenneth Jacob Bean; and first cousin, Russell Bean.

Visitation with the family will be held on Monday, September 29, 2025, from 11:00 AM until 1:00 PM at Watson Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 PM in the Roy B. Watson Chapel of Watson Funeral Home, with interment immediately following at Winchester Memorial Park.
