Jerel A. Short was born to Denise I. Short and the late Allen Bruce Johns.
He attended school in Philadelphia at Girard College, Barret Junior High, and University City High School. After high school, he joined the United States Army and served from July 1990 through February 1996. Shortly thereafter, he applied to the Philadelphia Police Department and was an active-duty Sergeant at the time of his passing.
Among Jerel's many passions, he loved to travel and help whomever he could.
Jerel is predeceased by his Father; Grandmother, Phyllis A. Short; Cousin, Kassim Short; and many other family members and friends.
He is survived by his Mother; Siblings: Angela Short, Chanel Short, and Omar Mitchell; Daughter: Aja Monet Short; Aunts: Karen Short and Debra M. Thomas; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who loved him dearly.
Jerel will be missed dearly by his family, friends, and fellow officers.

Relatives and friends are invited to Jerel's Life Celebration Memorial Visitation on Saturday December 16th 2023 at the John F. Givnish Life Celebration Home from 12PM-1PM with a service to follow at 1PM.
