JEREMIAH SLATER
With great sadness and heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Jeremiah Slater, age 44, on Good Friday, April 18, 2025. He will be greatly missed by all whose lives he touched.
Jeremiah grew up in Kansas City, MO (Northland) and attended North Kansas City High School and DeVry University. Jeremiah held a Bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems and was a Senior Software Developer for the Federal Reserve Bank.
Besides loving traveling with his soulmate, Amber, Jeremiah had a life-long passion for cooking with fresh ingredients, good coffee, football (playing in high school and watching the Kansas City Chiefs), fishing with his father and nephews, problem-solving, cartoons, and laughter (both telling and laughing at others' jokes). Jeremiah was at his happiest while playing football with Cooper and listening to and seeing the colors in music.
Jeremiah will also be remembered by those whose lives he impacted through his charitable efforts and church involvement. Jeremiah was passionate about helping others whether by making and delivering lasagnas to those in need, donating his skills and time to various boards, or his faith-based volunteer work in creating a coffee bar at church and otherwise assisting the congregation. He also spent many weekends helping build the family lake home. In addition to being a devoted husband, son, and uncle, Jeremiah also loved nothing more than spending time with his parents, extended family, and circle of friends.
Jeremiah is survived by his beloved wife: Amber Bourek Slater; parents: Don and Warlinde Slater; sisters: Aunalise Johnson (Drew) and Danielle Daee (Brett); sister-in-law: Stephanie Bourek-Hoyt (John); niece and nephews: Aiden, Donovan, Layla, Brooks, and Brock; mother-in-law: Kathy Bourek; father-in-law: Darrel Bourek; and adored dog, Cooper.
Please join us in celebration of Jeremiah's life and light on Saturday, May 17, 2025. Attendees are encouraged to wear Chiefs' gear to honor Jeremiah's passion for football. An open visitation period will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. A service, followed by lunch, will begin at 11:00 a.m. at Peculiar United Methodist Church, 20521 S. School Rd, Peculiar, MO.
In lieu of flowers, the family has chosen four charities of significant meaning to Jeremiah:
Peculiar United Methodist Church (20521 S. School Road, Peculiar, MO 64078 or https://peculiarumc.org/):
Donations made to the church may be designated for the church general operating expenses or Lasagna Love (in the check memo line or attached note). Jeremiah was passionate about feeding people in our community, and funds paid to the church designated for Lasagna Love will be used to have a lasagna-making party at the church this fall to help meet the needs of the backlog of people waiting for a lasagna.
Raymore Baby Grace (via Raymore Christian Church) (500 Peace Dr., Raymore, MO 64083 or https://www.raymorecc.org/):
For Raymore Baby Grace, an organization to support free diapers and wipes for families in need, make checks payable to Raymore Christian Church (in the check memo line or attached note designate Raymore Baby Grace or for online donations, mark "other" and type in Raymore Baby Grace).
St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (St. Jude’s - 262 Danny Thomas Pl, Memphis, TN 38105 or https://www.stjude.org/):
Donations to St. Jude’s help advance research and treatment for childhood cancer. For online donations, click on "Donate in Memory of" and type in "Jeremiah Slater."
