Jeremy Rolling Obituary

JEREMY “JERRY” MICHAEL ROLLING
November 19, 1942 ˜ April 18,
2023

We are sad to share that on April 18, 2023 Jerry Rolling passed away at the age of 80. He passed one week after celebrating his 50th wedding anniversary with his wife Sara.
Jerry was born on Nov. 19, 1942, in Nottingham, England to Harold and Audrey Rolling. Jerry started working with electronic computers in 1962, moving to Canada in 1967 for a job as systems analyst at CPAir. In 1973, Jerry changed careers to real estate and married his second wife, Sara Settle. Together they had four children and in 1990 they moved the family from Vancouver, Canada to Vancouver, WA, where he continued selling real estate until his retirement.
Jerry’s life revolved around projects to benefit the people and places he loved. In 1970 he set up a rugby clubhouse for his team, The Scribes, in Vancouver, Canada where they welcomed and entertained opposing teams.
Jerry’s projects continued when he joined the Vancouver, WA Downtown Rotary Club. His multiple Rotary projects included heroically overcoming administrative hurdles to facilitate a global grant supporting safe drinking water in Haiti, greatly expanding the Lunch Buddy program, and he was always the first to volunteer to don an elf (and eventually Santa) costume to distribute gifts to underprivileged children.
Jerry would find things, often unusual things, that he could do to improve the places and organizations that he cared about. As the revitalization of downtown Vancouver began, he co-founded the Clark County Mural Society. Jerry’s dogged persistence played a huge role in making Vancouver a more colorful and interesting place, and his love for Vancouver’s historic downtown can be seen on the sides of buildings everywhere you look. Jerry was particularly proud of the Remembrance Wall at Phil Arnold Way, which illustrates Vancouver’s contributions to the war effort.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Sara; children, Chris (Leslie), Ben (Missy), Abigail, Elizabeth (Aron) and Sandra; five grandchildren; and brother Peter. He was predeceased by daughter Clare.
A celebration of Jerry’s life will be held on May 5th at 1 p.m. at Columbia Presbyterian Church. Donations in Jerry’s honor can be made to Clean Water for Haiti, the nonprofit that Jerry has supported with his time, money, and passion for the last 20 years.

Jerry Rolling lived in Vancouver BC until 1990 and was an early leader of the Scribes Rugby Football Club starting in 1967 until 1990 - some 23 years.

My sincere condolences to Sara, Ben, ChrisAbby Elizabeth and Sandra and the grandchildren. I was so glad to speak to him in his last few days and I hope he enjoyed the story of the Founding of the Scribes RFC by Keith Hayes. Jerry was always a quiet leader who added so much to the Scribes - particularly being our President for two years and his vision of the Club House that he made a reality.  He played hooker which as you may recall was a perilous position of being draped on the shoulders on the biggest guys on the team and then hooking the ball back, all the while pushing against the  8 person opposition.  Not a position that I would have played, but Jerry enjoyed it. I will always remember his smile even when things were tough.
