"A Gentle Giant with a Heart of Gold"
Jermaine Laron Wilson, affectionately known to many as "Maine" or "Fred," gained his wings at the age of 37. Jermaine was every bit the gentle giant - a strong Black man with a big heart, a sharp wit, and a presence that could fill any room he walked into.
Born and raised in Washington, D.C. - the city that forever held his heart - Jermaine later made
Norfolk, Virginia, his home. From graduating from Anacostia High School to proudly earn his bachelor's degree in Social Work from Norfolk State University, he exemplified dedication and drive. He was pursuing his master's degree in Social Work at Walden University at the time of his passing. Jermaine dedicated his life to helping others, especially young people who needed guidance and love. His work at Rivermont Schools and The Barry Robinson Center reflected his calling: mentoring troubled teens and reminding them that their past did not define their future.
Jermaine met the love of his life, Lakeitha McAllister-Wilson, while at NSU. Their bond was real, tested, and rooted in love and growth. Together, they built a home filled with laughter, lessons, and deep affection. He was a devoted husband and a proud father who loved his daughters, Jaelyn and Taniyah, fiercely - always striving to be the man, protector, and example they could look up to.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lakeitha; his brother, McKeiver Wilson Jr. (Victoria Wilson); and his sister, Karon Yarborough. He also leaves behind his beloved daughters, Jaelyn and Taniyah; his aunts, Cathy and Erma; his uncles, Calvin, Harry, Gerald, and Paul; his nephews, Brian Smith, Michael Smith, Denzel Spence, Devon Miller, and Ayonte Carter; his nieces, Kairee McAllister, Ayonlah Carter, DeJah Wilson, and DenaJah Wilson; and a host of cousins, extended family, and lifelong friends who will forever cherish his memory.
Jermaine's parents, Joyce Ann Lewis and McKeiver Wilson Sr., who preceded him in death, raised him with strength, discipline, and love - traits that shaped the man he became. Though his mother was tough on him, he carried her lessons in every step of his journey.
Those who knew Jermaine knew his sarcastic humor. He could cut you with a joke but have you laughing two seconds later. Next to his humor was his love for video games and comics - he was a huge Batman fan. He was the kind of man who either kept to himself or stole the show entirely. Life tested him in many ways, but through every challenge, Jermaine learned what it truly meant to be a man, a father, and a husband. He wasn't perfect, but he was real - and he was succeeding.
Jermaine loved hard, stood tall, and gave deeply. His spirit will live on in the hearts of those he touched, the youth he guided, the friends he made family, and the loved ones he held close.
Rest easy, Jermaine. You fought your battles, made your mark, and left love wherever you went.
