Jerome William Ashmus, affectionately known as Jerry, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2025, at the age of 75, surrounded by love. Born on June 28, 1949, in Chicago, Illinois, Jerry spent his later years in Lake Villa, Illinois, where he was known for being a great cook and for bringing people together through the family gatherings he loved to host.

Jerry worked as a AAA-rated CNC machinist for 32 years, including 28 and a half years at Tri-Clover. He took great pride in his craft and was respected for his precision, skill, and work ethic. After retiring, Jerry continued to pursue his interests and furthered his education by earning certifications in Culinary Arts and Health and Nutrition from Lake County College in Grayslake, Illinois.

Driven by a passion for food and creativity, Jerry and his wife Anita launched a food truck business, Nana's Craft and Concessions, where they worked side by side serving homemade comfort foods and bringing joy to their community.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 30 years, Anita Ashmus; his children Jerrie Ashmus of Kenosha, Wisconsin, Shannon (Robin) Ashmus of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Melanie Ashmus of Berry, Alabama, Gina (Adam) Dukas of Antioch, Illinois, Antonette Montoya of Ocala, Florida, Christian (Bill) Hopkins of Lindenhurst, Illinois, and Charles Pacheco of Melvin, Illinois. He is also survived by two brothers, Frank "Fritz" Ashmus of Panama City Beach, Florida and Mark (Kris) Ashmus of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin; and two sisters, Louise (Mike) Erickson and Sherry DeMay both of Kenosha Wisconsin.

Jerry was a proud grandfather to 18 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense joy.

He was preceded in death by his father, Frank Ashmus of Payson, Arizona; his mother, Mary Ellen Fogerty of Lake Villa, Illinois; his stepfather, Albert "Al" Johnson; and one beloved grandson, Brandon Michael Lee of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

A man of simple joys and deep passions, Jerry was an avid fisherman who enjoyed all forms of fishing-from the quiet stillness of a lake to the thrill of the catch. He was also a loyal Chicago Cubs fan and a die-hard supporter of the Chicago Bears, always cheering them on no matter the season.

Jerry will be remembered as a loving husband, proud father, supportive brother, and loyal friend. His legacy lives on in the values he instilled-integrity, resilience, and quiet generosity-and in the many memories held dear by those who knew and loved him.

A celebration of life will be held on June 28, 2026, to honor Jerry on what would have been his 77th birthday-a date chosen to reflect his love of hosting family functions, laughter, and good food. All who knew him are welcome to join in remembering the man who brought so much heart to every gathering.
