Jerome Albert Gabor

First Sergeant (Retired) Jerome A. (Jerry) Gabor, 77, passed away on November 18, 2022, in Austin, Texas. He was born on July 12, 1945, to the late William and Kathryn Gabor in Chicago, Illinois.
Retired First Sergeant Gabor lived a full life. He was an honored Soldier, who served his country proudly for 29 years, which included 4 tours during the Vietnam War and 2 Purple Hearts for injuries sustained in combat. In 1991, Jerry retired from the Army where he was the Senior Administration NCO. Every day after and up to the day of his death, he could be seen wearing his Veteran's hat dutifully.
From the time he was 12 years old, Jerry was an orphan. He spent approximately one year at Angel Guardian Orphanage in Chicago, Illinois, until he was sent a year later to Father Flannagan's Boys Town where he eventually graduated in 1964.
Anyone who knew Jerry, knew that above anything else, he loved his family, and his family loved him. He was a proud and loving father to Wendi and Katie, who he lovingly referred to as "my girls". He married Rachel Summers in 2007 and soon after became a loving father figure to her children.
After his first grandchild, Austin, was born in 1992, he shined in his most favorite role, grandfather, and has been lovingly referred to as Papa ever since.
Jerry is deeply missed by his loving wife, Rachel; children, Wendi (Victor), Katie (Maro), Andrew, Andrea, Adriana (Jason), Aaron (Patricia), Amber (Daniel), and Jessica; grandchildren, Austin (Bianca), Brittani (Juan), Alyssa, Evan, Alexandrea, Aliya, Ariana, Avalyn, Atalli, Lillian, Zane, Damian, Christopher, Allie, Adam, and Alden; great grandchildren, Kayden, Mariela, and Sebastian; and siblings, Danny, Patty, and Colleen. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Donny, Bill, and Dennis, and friend, Linda.
Papa will always be remembered for the way he kissed you hello and goodbye, for his affection towards his grandchildren with a pat on the head and a hug, his love of movies, cookies, popcorn, chips, and Rachel's oatmeal, but especially, for the love he had for those around him. May the storyteller in him, encourage you to keep his stories alive as we honor this loyal, generous, and remarkable man.
