Jerome Patrick "Pat" Murphy

Jerome Patrick "Pat" Murphy, age 86, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 8, 2026 at his home in Brown County. He was a former resident of Solsberry.

Pat was born July 17, 1939 in Whiting, Indiana, to his parents, the late Leon and Mary Ellen (Gray) Murphy. At the age of 13, he moved to Solsberry and lived with Johnny & Carol Sims, who he considered his second mother and father. Pat was a 1957 graduate of Solsberry High School.

He retired in 2004 as an Inspector for Otis Elevator in Bloomington after 39 years of service.

In his free time, he enjoyed playing sports, especially basketball, bowling, horseshoes and was considered an all-around jock. He competed in Monroe County's Senior Games, earning top awards in several events year after year. Pat also loved spending time in the outdoors by fishing, searching for mushrooms, and in his younger years, hunting. Pat and his wife Marcie, line danced together for over 20 years and after marrying, they enjoyed spending their winters in Florida. He will be remembered most for his love of life; love of family and the many stories he would share with those around him.

He will be missed by his wife of 20 years, Marcie (Bowen) Murphy, whom he married on May 17, 2007 in Nashville; children, Jeff Murphy of Aspen, Colorado and Patty (Michael) Holmes of Bloomington; step children, Shannon (Troy) Schlenz of Greenwood and Donny (Deena) Brown of Greenwood; 9 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and Jon Wayne (Georgiana) Sims of Ellettsville, whom he considered his brother.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Tim and Richard "Rick" Murphy and second parents, Johnny & Carol Sims.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 21st at Walnut Grove Cemetery on South Walnut Grove Road in Bloomfield. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date. Arrangements have been entrusted to Meredith Funeral Home Cremation & Personalization Center in Morgantown.
