Jerome F. Opatkiewicz, 64, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, at Worcester Skilled Care Center in Worcester, Massachusetts. Born on October 5, 1961, in Binghamton, New York, Jerome was the beloved son of the late Edward S. and Janet G. Opatkiewicz.
Jerome attended Guilderland Central High School and later worked for the State University of New York at Albany for a number of years. He found joy in life’s simple pleasures—spending time with his family, caring for his pets, and feeding the neighborhood ducks and goats, a routine that brought him great happiness.
Jerome is survived by his brother, Edward S. Opatkiewicz II, and his wife, Rae Marie, of Ballston Spa, NY; his sister, Denice A. Dunn, and her husband, James, of Sapphire, NC; his sister, Diane J. Haskins, and her husband, Timothy, of Pawleys Island, SC; his brother, Neal E. Opatkiewicz, and his wife, Charlene, of Saratoga, NY; and his sister, Janine M. Gordon, of Queensbury, NY.
He is also survived by his nieces and nephews: Tyler Dunn and his wife, Kelsey; Bradley Dunn and his wife, Brianna; Shelby Gordon Peterson and her husband, Matthew; Sydney Haskins; Austin Gordon and his wife, Madison; and Alexis Gordon and her fiancé, Brett Rodriguez. Jerome was a proud great-uncle to Grayson, Trainor, and Amelia Dunn, and to Beckett and Lincoln Dunn.
Family and friends may call on Monday, February 2, from 930am-1030am at New Comer Cremations & Funerals, 343 New Karner Road, Colonie, NY. A Prayer Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., followed by interment at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
