Jerrell Rodgers Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by H.S. Smith Funeral Home - Caruthersville on Jan. 13, 2026.
Jerrell Rodgers was born on August 3, 1967, in Pemiscot County, Missouri, to James "Bubba" Rodgers and Ruth A Rodgers.

Jerrell was always a lively person who had a lot of love and passion to give. He primarily made his living through hospitality and landscaping.

Not having children of his own, Jerrell acted as a surrogate parent to several children over the years. He also had a heart for the elderly and cared for them in their homes as long as he was able.

At a young age, Jerrell became a Christian and found belonging in the church. Over the years, he worshiped and served within several congregations, including Progressive COGIC (late Bishop B. A. Armour), New Life Pentecostal Power (late Bishop James L. Lane), Greater Community Temple COGIC (Bishop Luke Robinson), Lighthouse Church of Jesus Christ (Bishop W. Johnson), and Jesus' Deliverance Ministries with the late Pastor Tee Rodgers and Pastor Barbara Rodgers and recently Monument of Delieverance Outreach with Apostle Robert Bell.

He was sincere about his faith, serving in many roles throughout his life, including Deacon, Minister, Head Cook, and custodian. He was also well known as a singer and praiser, as he danced holy in every service.

He carried gratitude in his heart and a song on his lips. Jerrell will be missed not only for what he contributed to the lives of others but for who he was.

Jerrell passed away on January 11, 2026, from ongoing medical issues. He was preceded in death by his mother and father; his grandparents, James and Nannie (Agnew) Rodgers, George and Susie (Smith) Davis; his siblings, Bobby Rodgers, Cathy Rodgers, Ronald Rodgers, Ida Rodgers Johnson, Linda Kaye Smith, and Roy Rodgers.

He is warmly remembered by his siblings: Freddie Rodgers of Caruthersville, Denise Egbuka and Casey Smith, both of Cape Girardeau, and Randy (Melissa) Rodgers of Jackson, Tennessee, Tray Rodgers and Rick (Regina) Rodgers, both of Sikeston, Mary Lou Smith of Branson, Charlotte (MC) Hudson and Perry Smith, both of Kennett, Janet Smith of Las Vegas, Nevada, Carla (Ryan) Clute of Taylors, South Carolina, Ronnie Smith of Trenton, Tennessee, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Jerrell also leaves behind a surrogate mother: his Aunt Barbara Rodgers; four longtime friends, including Sean Grant, Dominic Hubbard, Brother Roosevelt Prince, and Brother Ulysses Robinson; Special friends: Bridget Crooks, Sandra Manley, Eleanor Taylor, Dorothy Hunter, and Mr. and Mrs. Parkinsons; and a godson: Alex Slaughter of Florida.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Pentecostal Power Church in Caruthersville, Missouri, with Bishop Tommy Cobb officiating. Interment to follow in Maple Cemetery.

Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m.
