Jerrold Maurice Coleman, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 31, 2024, in Abilene, Texas, surrounded by his loving family. He was 68 years old. A visitation will be 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM, on Monday, June 10, 2024, at Elmwood Funeral Home, 5750 Hwy 277 South, Abilene, Texas. A graveside service will be 10:00 AM, on Tuesday, June 11, 2024, at the Texas State Veterans Cemetery, 7457 W. Lake Road, Abilene, Texas.

Jerrold was born on March 17, 1956, to Marvin and Imogene Coleman in Big Spring, Texas. He spent his formative years in Wichita Falls, Texas, where he graduated from high school. He continued his education at Midwestern University, demonstrating a dedication to learning that would follow him throughout his life.

Following his time at university, Jerrold answered the call to serve his country by joining the United States Navy. Mr. Jerrold Maurice Coleman honorably retired from the United States Navy after 20+ years of dedicated service.  He was a highly decorated Senior Chief Petty Officer that earned the following awards:   Navy/Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy/Marine Corps Achievement Medal with three oak leaf clusters, Meritorious Unit Commendation, Battle ’E’ Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal with five oak leaf clusters, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, Senior Service Deployment Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal, Rifle Marksmanship Medal, and Pistol Marksmanship Medal. The Navy allowed him to travel the world, embracing the diverse experiences and cultures he encountered. His service was marked by a steadfast commitment to duty and a deep sense of patriotism, culminating in his well-earned retirement from the Navy. His selfless service and dedication to keeping our country free will never be forgotten.  “Fair Winds and Following Seas.”

In 2000, Jerrold made the decision to move to Abilene, Texas, to be closer to his family, a testament to the deep bonds he cherished with his loved ones. Known for his good soul, generous spirit, and old-fashioned charm, Jerrold was a pillar of kindness and strength for his family and extended family alike. He had a unique ability to make everyone feel valued and loved, a legacy that will be remembered by all who knew him.

Jerrold's presence in the lives of those around him was a true blessing. His warmth, generosity, and unwavering love for his family are qualities that will be deeply missed. As we remember Jerrold, we celebrate a life well-lived, marked by service, love, and an enduring spirit.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Marvin and Imogene Coleman; his sister Carol Jennean Fry; his niece, Diane “Dink” Taylor; Nephews, Donnie Coleman, and Tyler Coleman.

Jerrold is survived by his wife of 42 years, Lydia Coleman; his children, Jesus Noel Santos and wife Barbara, Loida Talamantez and husband Rudy; and Romeo Santos; his grandchildren, LJ Santos Jr., Alex Nguyen, Adrian Mercado, Anastasia Mercado, Faith Talamantez, Hope Talamantez, Alicia McDowell, Melanie McDowell, and RJ Santos; his great grandchildren, Madison, Bryson, Kaden, Aliyah, Raina, Liam, David Jr., and Kanoa; his brother, Joe Coleman and wife Patsy; his long time special friends, Gerry Ferguson, Jim Gideon, Jed Rodriguez, Mark Brown, and Richard Gaines; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Rest in peace, Jerrold. Your memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to know you.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Jerrold's memory to Hospice of the Big Country, DAV (disabled veterans), and the American Cancer Society.
