Jerry L. Adams died on January 6, 2024. He was 82.
Jerry spent his early years in Memphis, Tennessee, but moved to Eagle Lake, Texas, at the end of his freshman year in high school. He graduated from Eagle Lake High School in 1959. Throughout his life, he always considered Eagle Lake his hometown.
While in high school, he met his best friend and the love of his life, Lynda Powers, and they were married in 1962.
Jerry' attended The University of Texas, graduating in 1963 with a Bachelor of Business Administration. He then attended The University of Texas Law School, graduating with honors in 1966. While in law school, he served as a quizmaster and was an Associate Editor of the Texas Law Review. He was also selected as a Chancellor, the law school's highest academic honor. He was a member of Delta Theta Phi law fraternity and was awarded the fraternity's scholarship key.
After law school, Jerry joined the Galveston, Texas, law firm of Dibrell, Dibrell & Greer. He spent his forty-one year legal career with the firm and, for many years, was the firm's managing partner. He retired from the firm, then named Greer, Herz & Adams, L.L.P., at the end of 2007. Following retirement, he and Lynda moved to their farm near Round Top, Texas, where he thoroughly enjoyed his life. He and Lynda shared a love of Great Pyrenees dogs and spending time at their cabins in Cloudcroft, New Mexico, and Ingram, Texas.
Jerry served a number of community organizations during his time in Galveston. He was on the board of the Galveston YMCA for many years and served as its president for three years. He was an enthusiastic racquetball player for many years and often reminisced about his racquetball buddies and the great times he had at the "Y." He also served on the Railroad Museum's board for a number of years and as its president for three years.
Jerry was an avid motorcycle and car enthusiast throughout his life. He was also an instrument rated pilot and realized a boyhood dream of owning and flying a V-Tailed Bonanza airplane.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Lynda Powers Adams, his son, James Christopher Adams, of Round Top, Texas, his daughter, Dana Adams Pagano, and her husband, Tony, of Eagle Lake, Texas, and a number of cousins and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, James A. and Georgia V. Adams.
A marker will be placed at Lakeside Cemetery in Eagle Lake, Texas. At his request, family and close friends have a memorial service conducted by good friend and "Whataburger breakfast buddy," Pastor Sam Wayman of La Grange, Texas. Jerry's Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 18, 2024 at Koenig-Belvill Funeral Home & Cremations in La Grange.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Gardenia Janssen Animal Shelter, 240 Svoboda Ln., La Grange, TX 78945.

I worked with Jerry for over 40 years on various projects. I was in another law firm but we were always on the same side of any issue. Jerry was a lawyer´s lawyer. Careful, precise and always wanting the best legal product he could produce. It was an honor to have known him and have worked with him. Michael Wylie.
