Jerry Armstrong Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Farley Funeral Homes and Crematory - Venice on Feb. 2, 2026.
Jerry L. Armstrong of Venice, FL, formerly of DeKalb, IL passed away on January 28, 2026. He was born on July 15, 1940, in Grinnell, Iowa, to the late Harry L. and Doris Armstrong. A graduate of Warren High School (class of 1958), Jerry went on to earn his Master's degree from Northern Illinois University-a feat he accomplished while working full-time and raising his young family).

His career was a testament to his work ethic; he began as a youth working in the fields as a water boy for DeKalb Ag and rose through the ranks over 35 years to become the Vice President of Finance at DEKALB Genetics Corp.

Jerry was an avid golfer throughout his life. A highlight of his time on the links was scoring a hole-in-one in 2009.

Jerry served as a director and officer at The Plantation Golf and Country Club in Venice and The Plantation Community Foundation as well as Chairman of the Employee Appreciation Foundation at Jacaranda Trace. During his time in DeKalb, Jerry served as an officer and director of Kiwanis Club, the YMCA, Kishwaukee Country Club, Opportunity House and the United Way. He served as director of First American Bank and was Director Emeritus of Northern Illinois University. Always willing to lend his expertise to his community, he frequently assumed financial leadership positions within these organizations.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Ruth A. Armstrong; a daughter, Kimberly A. (Steve) Parma of Lakewood Ranch, FL; and his son, Bradley L. (Denise) Armstrong of Port Charlotte, FL. He is also survived by five grandchildren Alyssa M. (Charles) Richardson, Andrew L. Armstrong, Alexander Parma, Natalie Parma and Harry Parma; and one great-grandchild Stefan Richardson.

Per Jerry's wishes, no services are planned at this time. Interment will be private for the family at Venice Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to one of the following charities:
