Jerry Barnett, 85, of Wilmington, Delaware, passed away on August 20, 2025. He was born on February 27, 1940, in Greenville, South Carolina.
Jerry proudly served in the United States Air Force as an Air Policeman from May 1959 through May 1965. He went on to earn his Associates degree in Accounting from Delaware Technical Community College and worked for 32 years at Hercules in Wilmington, Delaware, before retiring.
Jerry was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He and his beloved wife, Lynne, shared 65 years of marriage. He found joy in spending time with his family, particularly during vacations, and spent many years on the golf course. In his free time, Jerry could often be found watching his favorite game shows, including The Price is Right and Family Feud, playing computer games, enjoying all sports, or relaxing with old Westerns. He cherished his home of 59 years, where he made countless memories with those he loved. His witty sense of humor always made people laugh at every family gathering.
He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Barnett, his mother, Betty Greer, his step-father Garv Greer, and step-siblings Terry Greer and Cheryl Green.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Lynne Barnett; his daughter, Donna Tearl (Jimmy); his daughter-in-law, Kristi Barnett; grandchildren, James and Danielle Tearl, Ashley and Megan Barnett; as well as multiple nieces and nephews. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
A celebration of Jerry's life will be held on October 4, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at McCrery & Harra Funeral Home, 3710 Kirkwood Highway, Wilmington DE. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice.
