Jerry Woods Burt

Jerry Woods Burt, 78, of D’Iberville, Mississippi passed away in Ocean Springs Hospital on Tuesday, December 23, 2025. He was born on April 15, 1947, to George Benjamin Burt and Grace Champion Burt in Grenada, Mississippi.

Jerry attended East Tallahatchie High School and worked for Lyons Corporation in Grenada, Mississippi. He later founded his own company, JB Housing, through which he built hundreds of homes across Mississippi. His work ethic, craftsmanship, and dedication left a lasting mark on the communities he served.

Jerry proudly served his country in the United States Army, entering service in 1966. He served two terms and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan during the Vietnam era, a period of service that remained a great source of pride to him and his loved ones.

A man of deep faith and many talents, Jerry loved hunting, fishing, gardening, growing crops, caring for animals, painting, photography, singing, and watching and reading westerns. He loved Jesus and shared that love by singing gospel music in many churches throughout the Cascilla and Grenada areas. Jerry was known for his heart of gold, his willingness to help others, and his gift for storytelling. He had a special way of making anyone’s day brighter.

Jerry will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. May God rest his soul until we meet again in heaven.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George Benjamin Burt and Grace Champion Burt; and his brother, Aaron Jerome Burt.

He is survived by his two children, Timothy Burt (Krystal Burt) and Melissa Powell (Mark Powell); his grandchildren, Emily Burt, Noah Burt, Miley Grace Burt, Alyssa Powell, Melody Powell, and Anna Powell; and his great-grandchildren, Caden and Madelyn. He is also survived by his siblings, Jimmy Daryl Burt, Judy Burt Cote, and Dale Fredrick Burt, along with extended family and many friends who will miss him dearly.

A visitation will take place on Saturday, January 3, 2026 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. with services to follow at 11 a.m. at Bradford-O'Keefe Funeral Homes 675 Howard Ave Biloxi, MS. Interment will take place at the Biloxi National Cemetery on Monday, January 5, 2026 at 10 a.m.
