Jerry David Freeman, age 72, passed away on Saturday, November 15, 2025, at the United Living Community in Brookings, SD. A visitation will be held from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm on Friday, November 21, 2025, at Eidsness Funeral Home in Brookings, SD with a Prayer Service starting at 2:00 pm. Light refreshments will follow.

Jerry David Freeman was born in Mitchell, SD to Christian and Elizebeth (Hofer) Freeman of Canova, SD. He grew up on a farm just outside of town, the oldest of four kids, two brothers, Larry and Harvey, and the youngest of the family, sister Carol. His favorite pastime was playing baseball, and when he couldn't play baseball, you could often find him fishing with family, playing cards, pinochle and pitch being his favorites, and playing pool whether at home, or in the pool hall. Jerry was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and also attended the Jesus Church in Brookings SD. He often loved discussing and debating scripture.

Jerry attended school in Canova, SD graduating high school in 1971. He then attended SDSU in Brookings and Southeastern Vo-tech school in Sioux Falls. He mostly worked as a farmer, electrical tech, and truck driver, as well as various other jobs throughout his life, and was always keeping himself busy. His kids remember him spending countless hours working around the yard, in their huge garden, or on old cars growing up. He also enjoyed spending his time attending their sporting events as their biggest fan, rarely missing a single one, even for nieces and nephews.

Jerry is survived by his wife Susan (Newsam) Freeman, and five children, Peggy (Matthew Cody) Freeman of Palmyra VA, Angela (Bobby) Carlson of Brookshire TX, Crissy Freeman of Brookings SD, Jackie (Jacob) Bailey of Horace ND, and Matthew Freeman of Brookings SD. He is also survived by six grandchildren, Cole and Devon Carlson, Ethan Freeman, Sawyer Freeman, and Jensen and Collins Bailey. He was proceeded in death by his parents, Christian and Elizabeth Freeman, as well as his niece, Christina Danford.
