March 9, 1959 – March 2, 2026
Jerry Lee Goff, 66, of Rankin, Texas, a larger-than-life West Texas mechanic, racer, and a devoted family man-went to his heavenly home on March 2, 2026.
He was born March 9, 1959, in Denver City, Texas, to Jerry Henry Goff and Thelma Lee Scott. He graduated in 1977 from Denver City High School. He briefly attended South Plains College while pursuing his passion for bareback bronc riding.
From childhood, Jerry loved tearing things apart and putting them back together better than before—he was a mechanic to his core, and there was little he couldn’t fix. In 1983, he moved to Rankin while working for Halliburton, and the town became his lifelong home. He married Deanna Evans in 1985, and they welcomed their daughter, Randi, in 1988.
Jerry was a devoted, hands-on father. No matter how grueling his work shifts or how little sleep he got on call, he never missed Randi’s events. He was her biggest fan and remained a loyal supporter of the Rankin Red Devils throughout his life.
He especially cherished helping Randi with 4-H stock shows, feeding, bathing, clipping, and perfecting her pigs, rabbits, goats, and sheep. He had a knack for picking out award winning pigs and giving them personality-packed names like Fang, Spanky, and Hoss. Known as one of the toughest competitors in the ring, he took immense pride in every ribbon and buckle they earned.
In his younger years, Jerry served proudly with the Rankin Fire Department, responding to countless fire calls and emergencies in the community that he loved. He worked as a mechanic for Halliburton, then for Western Gas (later known through name changes as Atlas Pipeline and Anadarko), and later as a pumper for Concho. Driving out on the lease roads, he cherished spotting wildlife while tending pumps.
Jerry loved fishing with friends, often followed by legendary fish fries. He thrived in West Texas Dwarf Car racing for many years, earning the title of Top Racer one season—an achievement he treasured. The camaraderie with fellow racers brought him some of his happiest days.
His constant companion was his loyal dog, Buck-his partner in crime and best friend. Jerry worried more about Buck's well-being than his own and took him everywhere.
His granddaughters, Blakely and Charlie, were his favorite people on earth. He visited often to watch their jiujitsu, gymnastics, basketball, and soccer events, beaming with pride from the sidelines.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jerry Henry Goff and Thelma Lee Scott.
Jerry is survived by his daughter, Randi Getchell, and her husband Kenny; granddaughters Blakely and Charlie Getchell, all of Keller, Texas; sister Teresa Tucker; nephew Travis Tucker and wife Ann, all of Houston; ex-wife and lifelong friend Deanna Evans Goff; nieces and nephews Maranda Haire, Jimmy Haire, Roger Haire Jr., Sherry Evans, all of Rankin, Texas; and niece Keri Lovell of Springtown, Texas.
Visitation is Friday, March 13, from 4–6 p.m. at Nichols Funeral Home (1503 S. Gaston St., Crane, Texas). Services will be held at 10 a.m. on March 14th, at the Tommy Workman Pool Pavilion (103 East 5th St., Rankin, Texas). Burial will follow at 3 p.m. MST (4 p.m. CST) at Resthaven Cemetery (3900 Tatum Hwy, Lovington, New Mexico). All are welcome to attend.
Pallbearers: Lynn Evans, John McDaniels, Jimmy Haire, Travis Tucker, Mark McKenzie, Gary Jackson. Honorary Pallbearers: Coy Evans, Jesse Hooker, Bruce Hooker, Sal Aguilar.
