Jerry David Hehl, 72, a lifelong resident of Monroe, Michigan, passed away peacefully at home on Monday, September 15, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones. Born on February 2, 1953, in Monroe, Jerry was the son of the late Joseph and Elaine (LaBeau) Hehl. He attended Monroe Public Schools and graduated from Monroe High School in 1971. On June 14, 1974, Jerry married the love of his life, Gwen M. Griffin, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Monroe. They shared 51 wonderful years of marriage together. Jerry worked at the DTE Power Plant in Monroe for 35 years as a heavy equipment operator, retiring in 2013. He was a devoted member of Lambertville Community Church, where he served as an usher and volunteered his time and talents to support the congregation. An avid outdoorsman, Jerry especially enjoyed hunting at deer camp with Jeff Smolek and his lifelong best friend, Jim Hopson. He also loved fishing, gardening, and caring for his beloved peach trees. Every morning at 5:00 a.m., Jerry could be found walking at Sterling State Park, finding peace in nature. More than anything, Jerry treasured time with his family, especially attending his grandchildren's events, which brought him immense joy. He is survived by his loving wife, Gwen; three daughters: Stacey M. (Andrew) Frye of Newport, Jennifer R. (Brian) Laurin of Milan, and Kristi M. (John) Carr of Monroe; and seven cherished grandchildren: Jacob, Addisyn, Ashton, Logan, Alex, Presley, and Griffin. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Mary Griffin of Monroe; his siblings, Joseph (Betsy) Hehl of Clarkston and Jan (Bob) Boden of Tecumseh; and many extended family members and friends. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Joylane, and his father-in-law, Carl Griffin. Visitation will be held on Friday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201S.
