Jerry Wayne Johnson Sr., age 83, was called to his eternal home on Tuesday, September 30, 2025, surrounded by his loving family in Broken Bow, Oklahoma. Born on May 14, 1942, to LC (Red) and Ruby Lee Long Johnson in Tom, Oklahoma, Jerry lived a life characterized by strength, dedication, and unwavering faith.
A man of principle, Jerry embodied the belief that if something was worth having, it was worth taking care of. His steadfast nature and commitment to family were evident in every aspect of his life. As a devoted member of Good News Fellowship Church, Jerry's faith was the foundation upon which he built his life, guiding him through both challenges and joys.
Jerry's love for his family was profound. He cherished his wife, Velma Johnson, and took immense pride in being a father and grandfather. Family gatherings were a highlight for him, especially when he brought joy to those around him with his famous homemade ice cream. The moments spent with his children and grandchildren were treasures he held dear.
For 20 plus years, Jerry dedicated his hard work and steady hands to the Broken Bow Housing Authority in the maintenance department, where his strong work ethic and reliability left a lasting impact on the community. In his younger years, he found joy in riding his motorcycle, camping with his children, and hunting deer and squirrels with his sons. Known affectionately on the CB radio as "Rainbow" with the handle KBG3484, he enjoyed connecting with others through countless conversations.
A lover of Bluegrass and gospel music, Jerry's life was filled with melodies that reflected his faith and love for family. He leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and devotion that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Velma Johnson; his sister, Carolyn Sue Headrick; two grandsons, William Gordon Johnson III and Michael Martinez Yanez; and his daughter-in-law, Geneva Kay Johnson.
He is survived by his two sons, William Gordon Johnson II of Broken Bow, Oklahoma, and Jerry Jr. and Virginia Johnson of South Jordan, Utah; three daughters, Karen Johnson of Broken Bow, Oklahoma, Yvonne and Kevin Willis of Broken Bow, Oklahoma, and Melody and Scott Fisher of Broken Bow, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; as well as several nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Jerry Wayne Johnson Sr. will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of all who loved him. A celebration of his life will be held at Good News Fellowship Church, where family and friends will gather to honor a remarkable man whose kindness and love touched so many lives.
A memorial services will be Friday, October 10, 2025 at 10:00 A.M. at the Good News Fellowship Church in Broken Bow, Oklahoma with Pastor Doug Deramus officiating. Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Bowser Family Funeral Home in Broken Bow, Oklahoma.
