Roger D. Bishop

Rev. Roger David Bishop, age 92, of Mena, passed away on March 1, 2026 at Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith. He was born December 25, 1933 to Dick "Babe" and Katheryne Roediger Bishop in Wichita Falls, Texas. He was married to Phyllis Cardwell on August 9, 1955.

Roger gave his life to the Lord Jesus Christ in 1949 and surrendered to preach in 1953. He started churches and pastored at churches in California, Texas, North Dakota, Wisconsin and was pastor at Acorn Baptist Church from 1997 thru 2023 in Mena, Arkansas. Roger served in the United States Navy 1953-1955 in San Diego, CA and was Honorably Discharged.

Roger was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of almost 48 years, Phyllis; three brothers, Homer his wife, Dorothy, Carol, and Richard and his wife, Loretta; and a stepson, Steve Bishop.

Survivors include his children, son, David and wife, Deb Bishop of Gainesville, Texas and daughter, Glenda and husband, Forest Peterson of Mena; four grandchildren, John Peterson and wife, Kelly and David Peterson and wife, Caitlin, Holly Leindecker and Hayley Bishop; two great-granddaughters, Sage and Iris, also survived by his brother, Daniel and wife, Patricia; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral service will on Saturday, March 7, 2026, at 2:00 P.M. at Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel with Brother Syd Brannon officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior starting at 1:00 P.M. Interment will follow in the Pinecrest Cemetery in Mena, Arkansas.

Pallbearers will be John Peterson, David Peterson, James Looney, Curt Boyd, Andy Boyd, Ronnie Hay. Honorary Pallbearers will be the men of Acorn Baptist Church.
