Jerry Kirk Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Arlington Memorial Gardens Funeral Home & Crematory on Mar. 12, 2026.
Dr. Jerry Ross Kirk, age 94, of Cincinnati OH passed away on March 9, 2026 at his daughter and son-in-law's home, surrounded by his loving wife Patricia and family.

Jerry was born May 11, 1931, in Seattle, WA, beloved second son of the late Douglas and Gladys (Cowden) Kirk. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his only sibling Douglas G. Kirk.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Patricia; sons Timothy (Sally) Kirk and Stephen (Amy) Kirk; daughters Kimberly (Scott) Hahn, Kari (Mark) Harrington, and Kristi (Rob) Holsclaw; 28 grandchildren plus 19 spouses; 66 great-grandchildren plus1 spouse with three great grandchildren on the way.

Jerry was a 1949 graduate of Queen Anne High School where he was a basketball and tennis star. He then attended the University of Washington where he distinguished himself as an orator, a basketball player, and captain of the tennis team. In addition, after a memorable retreat in Colorado with Young Life, Jerry committed his life to Christ and brought that desire to share the Lord to two different Young Life Clubs that he led in Seattle while attending the U.

Jerry was led to pursue his Masters of Divinity and Master of Arts in Theology at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary and later received honorary doctorates from Sterling College in Sterling, Kansas, and from Grove City College in Grove City, Pennsylvania. While in Pittsburgh, he started the first two Young Life Clubs east of the Mississippi. During seminary Jerry met the love of his life, Patricia. They wed in 1956 in Pittsburgh, where he began to pastor at the Mt. Lebanon Pres. Church. He became a senior pastor at the New Wilmington Pres. Church in New Wilmington, PA, and then the College Hill Pres. Church in Cincinnati, OH, for more than 20 years. During this time, Jerry and Patty welcomed five children into their family.

Jerry then left the pastorate to found the National Coalition for the Protection of Children and Families to fight pornography and to uphold purity and chastity. He later received honorary doctorates from Sterling College in Sterling, Kansas, and from Grove City College in Grove City, Pennsylvania. In his later years, he developed the Prayer Covenant, a prayer of commitment shared with millions around the world, drawing people closer to Jesus by committing themselves to the Lord and to following Jesus together. From that, Jerry established Jesus Covenant Prayer Partners which were 8 groups of leaders from the ministry as well as from the marketplace who bound their lives together to meet monthly by conference calls/ Zoom calls to pray for each other and share the word together. He was still involved until February 2026.

Jerry was a beloved husband, father, Papa, and Great-Papa. He led many people to know Jesus and to follow him, both as a wonderful pastor, friend, and a shepherd to pastors. He touched many lives throughout the world and offered comfort, support and wisdom to all. He will be deeply missed.

Growing up next to the Kirk Family I have many memories of Rev. Jerry Kirk. I am praying for your family at this time but celebrating because he is in heaven with Jesus.

Today in my car, I narrowly missed a bird and appreciated God's love for me. Pastor Kirk taught us that.

My memories of Jerry was his amazing care and concern for anyone he came into contact with. It was always about you and never about him. I cannot look at a bird or a snowflake without thinking about the endless love of God. If you ever heard him speak, you know exactly what I mean. During the time between Sr. Pastors and Worship Pastors at Hope Church, he stepped in and led us to the Throne each week. I would lead one worship service per month and Jerry would call me as I planned the worship part of the service. His comments were less about "which songs" and more about "will God be glorified." Then we would pray together. This was an amazing personal experience for me. The Spirit was present! I am so happy for him right now. He lived for this time! I will miss him, his contagious laugh, and his warm smile. Jerry lived for Jesus and he left an incredible legacy!

Jerry became a great friend and encourager to me. Although a leader that was globally known, I would unexpectedly receive a call from Jerry, just to say hi, catch up for a few minutes and then pray for one another. I will miss his warmth and encouragment ... and of course, his laugh that is probably being heard echoing all over heaven right now! ... May God rest upon his family and the many friends who found him peeking in on them, just because we "We walked together with Jesus!"

With Joy I think of Jerry with Jesus now. As a teenager Jerry introduced me to a daily walk with Jesus. The words of the song we sang at Young Life club meetings is so true today, "You ask me how I know He lives... He lives within my heart." Barry Johnson

In 1952, Mt. Lebanon United Presbyterian Church hired Jerry Kirk, a Pittsburgh Xenia Seminary student, as a youth intern after an interview with senior pastor Dr. Cary Weisiger. This led to the founding of Young Life in Pittsburgh. Jerry lived in Dormont near our home, which hosted the city´s first Young Life meeting. His influence through Young Life has shaped four generations of the Johnson family. "Great Is Thy Faithfulness."

We loved Pastor Jerry. I can still hear his laugh when he'd be telling us a funny story while preaching. And I remember him telling us one Sunday that at the age of 70 he started memorizing whole chapters of the Bible. Lastly, I loved the story he told us of the Cardinal bird that would always come to their kitchen window when they were eating breakfast and it would remind him of God's love. That's why the Cardinal is my favorite bird! It reminds me of God's love and Pastor Jerry. Well done, faithful servant. Bob & Carla Fritz, Julie (Fritz) Casasco, Daniel (Danny) Fritz.

Many years ago when I was just barely 20 years old, I was introduced to Dr. Jerry Kirk when he came to Southern California with his STOP campaign. I am a survivor of that type of abuse and he was the first man who decided to be vocal about the horrors that brings. From that point on, he's been a person I have loved and admired. I'm now 57 years old and I still tell people about what he did for me and many others. What a treasure heaven has received!

Jerry lived a life defined by service and compassion. A life well lived devoted to his family and his love for God. He left a lasting impression on me. Jerry's life was a blessing, a memory I will treasure. A life that touches goes on forever. So blessed our paths crossed. I'll miss this kind soul. Sandi Nicholson

Jerry is on a long list of wonderful, dedicated people who helped thousands, perhaps millions, discover that Jesus Christ is a living person who can be experienced on this side of the veil. He will be greatly missed but he left many world-changers in his wake who will continue to build his legacy. He is now in the radiant light of LOVE experiencing the wonders of Heaven, forevermore.
