Jerry Dee Koehn, my loving husband, our dear Dad, Grandpa, and Great-Grandpa, was born to Frank and Leona (Boehs) Koehn on August 31, 1938. He lived a full and meaningful life until he suddenly slipped away on July 3, 2025, at the age of 86. He was born in Fairview, Oklahoma, and spent nearly his entire life there.
He received his education in the Fairview public schools.
At the age of 11, Dad gave his heart to God and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, at Fairview in April 1950 by Minister George Nichols. He remained steadfast and grounded in his faith throughout his life.
As a teenager, he and his brothers spent their summers working on the family farm near Ringwood with their Grandpa Boehs and uncles. Many hot days were spent hoeing watermelons and cucumbers-lessons in both labor and character.
He was united in marriage to Viola Wedel in Burns, Kansas, on December 31, 1959, by Minister Elmer Boehs. A blizzard added a unique touch to this special day. They celebrated 65 years of marriage this past December. Shortly after their wedding, they began a two-year 1-W service term in Denver, Colorado, where many lifelong friendships and memories were formed. During that time, they welcomed their son, Anthony. Ten years later, they rejoiced at the birth of their daughter, Dianna.
Jerry began his career in carpentry with Fast Construction Company, later establishing his own business in 1970. He built homes, cabinets, and dining tables with craftsmanship and care. The quality of his work mattered deeply to him, and many have been blessed by the skill of his hands.
Dad had a servant's heart and gave freely of his time to the church. He served as a church usher, youth leader, and school board member at Cedar Christian School. The Fairview congregation held a special place in his heart. In 1981, Jerry was called by God and the church to the deaconry, a role he filled with dedication and humility. He also served ten years on the Conference Incorporation Board. To us, Dad was a steady rock- always supportive, always present. He encouraged our endeavors, offered wise counsel, and stood firmly for what he believed. He often prayed by name for grandchild and great-grandchild, who were all dear to him. Church attendance was a priority, and punctuality was non-negotiable. He was very interested in the community and formed many lasting friendships. He served 12 years on the Fellowship Home Board. In October 2023, Dad and Mom moved to an apartment in town, enjoying that season of life together. They also cherished time at their little cabin near Pryor. Mom especially treasures their daily devotions and the joy they found playing Scrabble together in recent months.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Viola; one son, Anthony and wife Penny of Pryor, Oklahoma; one daughter, Dianna and husband Lyle Buller of Galva, Kansas; eight grandchildren; thirteen great grandchildren; two brothers, Kenneth and wife Bernice, and Richard and wife Kathy; one brother-in-law, Jack and wife Louise Adkins; and one sister-in-law, Antonia Koehn. He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Marlene; and one brother, Ray.
Though it seems too soon to say goodbye, we are comforted by the assurance that Dad has received his eternal reward. Our hope and desire are to meet him again on heaven's shore.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 7, 2025 at the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite. Interment will follow at Cedar Cemetery under the direction of Pierce Funeral Home, Fairview, Oklahoma. Memorials are suggested to the Cedar Christian School with the funeral home serving as custodian at P.O. Box 15, Fairview, OK 73737. Jerry and Viola were very dear to Ken and I. Jerry and Ray built our house on Highland, and Tony was part of that too. I had the pleasure of teaching Dianna in first grade. Jerry and Viola stopped by our house in Eagle Nest, and we had a wonderful visit. We both treasured our time with Jerry.
