Jerry Lynn McMillan was born on October 6, 1944 to Ray McMillan and Dorothy (Ralls) McMillan in Douglas, WY while his father was working as a prison guard in World War II.
Jerry was raised and educated in Stafford, KS. He graduated from Stafford High School where he met Maxine Joy Lagree. They joined in marriage on November 13, 1965.
Jerry's connection to the land and his love for the outdoors was shown in his lifelong passions of hunting, fishing, team roping, and running a cow/calf operation. But his pride and his heart remained true to farming above all other interests. Raising crops and cattle in rural Stafford County was a lifelong dream of Jerry's that he vowed to never give up on.
The "way of life" that farming provided to Jerry and his family meant more to him than the livelihood that it provided. For Jerry, the struggles that go along with farming were always overshadowed by the joy and optimism of planting and harvesting, and most importantly watching the crops grow as the seasons passed. In his most recent years, watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren grow became his way of life - that he proudly cultivated in Stafford County for 78 years.
Jerry's passion for play was a big part of his life. Besides the hours of hard work, he always found time to get away for a weekend out west coyote hunting with his buddies or in his younger years a team roping jackpot. He made life long friendships and loved telling stories and reliving every hunt.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Ray and Dorothy McMillan. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Maxine McMillan of Stafford, KS and their 3 children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Tom (Jacque) McMillan and Gatlin of Stafford, KS. Tiffany (Kris) Moore and Jessa, Connor, Ally (Shawn Hill) of Lenexa, KS. Sandy (Greg) Lepp of Stafford, KS. Jordan (Dustin) Focht and Jacie, Andi, Charli of Pratt, KS. Kori (Jason) Boyd and Ethan, Dylan, Bowen of South Haven, KS. Payton (Travis) Pfannenstiel and Riser, River of Hays, KS. Parker (Chyanne) Patterson of Kiowa, KS. He is also survived by his Brother, Dennis (Deb) McMillan and family of Omaha, NE.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Friday March 17, 2023 at Minnis Chapel, Stafford, KS. Visitation will be Thursday 1-7 p.m. at Minnis Chapel, Stafford. A private burial with family will be at the Prairie Chapel Cemetery, Rural Stafford. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be sent to Stafford County Bulldog Football Program in care of the chapel.
