Jerry McNully Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brumley-Mills Funeral Home - McAlester on Sep. 30, 2025.

Publish in a newspaper

Jerry Edwin McNully was born on November 11, 1943, in Kiowa, Oklahoma, and passed away at the age of 81 on September 27, 2025, in Atoka, Oklahoma. He graduated from McAlester High School in 1962 and proudly served in the United States Navy until 1966.

In August 1968, Jerry married the love of his life, Dolores Jean (Taylor) McNully. Together they made their home in several places in Oklahoma and Kansas before settling in McAlester, where they have been devoted members of the Tannehill community for more than 47 years.

A cowboy at heart, Jerry had a lifelong passion for working with and training horses and enjoyed riding the trails with friends for as long as he was able. He built a strong career in the oilfield industry, beginning as a tool pusher and working his way up to a rig supervisor/superintendent for several companies over many years. Jerry also worked as an over-the-road truck driver and had stints in car and furniture sales.

Beyond work, Jerry loved sports and devoted much of his time to them. He served as a high school football and basketball referee, a baseball umpire, and a Boys Club baseball coach, always encouraging young athletes and giving back to the community. He was also an avid supporter of OU athletics, with a special love for Sooner football.

In his retirement years, Jerry enjoyed buying old stock and utility trailers, refurbishing them, and reselling them-a hobby that combined his love of hard work with his knack for fixing things up.

Jerry loved God, his family, and his country. He was deeply loved by his family in return, who will forever cherish his guidance and steady presence in their lives.

Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, George and Wanda McNully; his sister, Mary Wootan; and his son-in-law, Greg Jenkins.

He is survived by his wife, Jean McNully of the home; daughter, Melinda Russell and husband Jerry of Norman, OK; daughter, Kellie Jenkins of Caney, OK; son, John McNully and wife Sally of Haywood, OK; and son, Jason McNully and wife Tamara of Blanchard, OK; Jerry was a proud grandfather to Bethany Sipe and husband Phillip, Allison Russell and husband Ben, Travis McNully and wife Kelsey, Ryan McNully and wife Mackinzee, Jerod McNully, Taryn Horinek and husband Caleb, and Cole Jenkins; and great-grandfather to Gerald and Fenix Sipe and Tate McNully.

The family will receive friends on Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home in McAlester. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 9, 2025 at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home in McAlester, Oklahoma. Interment will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Fort Gibson National Cemetery in Fort Gibson, Oklahoma. Serving as pallbearers will be his son and grandsons, John McNully, Travis McNully, Jerod McNully, Ryan McNully, Cole Jenkins, and Caleb Horinek. Honorary pallbearers will be Trent Myers and Greg Armstrong.

Jerry will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
