Jerry McPherson Sr. Obituary

Jerry "Jackie" McPherson Sr., age 81, of Greenfield, passed away Monday, February 9, 2026, at his residence. He was born in Greenfield on May 13, 1944, to Robert and Martha E. (Cooper) McPherson. Jerry graduated from Greenfield-Central High School in 1962.

Jerry worked as a certified master mechanic at Leon Butler Shell Station in Greenfield for many years. He started his career in law enforcement by joining the Hancock County Reserves in 1979. Jerry later joined the Fortville Police Department. He joined as a deputy for the Hancock County Sheriff's Department in 1980 for twenty years before retiring in 2000. He completed the Law Enforcement Academy in 1980. Jerry was a member of the F.O.P., the Moose Lodge of Greenfield, and the Police Car Owners of America. He loved going to and participating in car shows. After retirement, Jerry loved to spend time watching over his grandchildren.

He is survived by his children, Jerry (Heather) McPherson Jr., Michael (Kelly) McPherson, Darryl (Mary) McPherson, and Amy (Bo Reckley) Kirkpatrick; eight grandchildren, Tim (Cassie) McPherson, Megan (Devin) Parker, Gage (Tara) McPherson, Jordan (Chris) Muegge, Tanner (Ashley) McPherson, Kyle Kirkpatrick, Seth Kirkpatrick, and Macy Kirkpatrick; five great-grandchildren, Xavier McPherson, Xander McPherson, Summer Perdue, Raelyn Mary Muegge, and Sterling McPherson; and siblings, Bob (Marie) McPherson, Gene McPherson, Sandy (Karen) McPherson, Pam Alexander, Marsha (Richard) Meredith, and Lori McPherson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Martha E. McPherson.

Visitation will be held on Monday, February 16, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the mortuary. Chaplain Katherine Murray will be officiating. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made by mail to the Hancock Health Foundation, 801 N. State St., Greenfield, IN 46140, or by website at https://www.hancockhealth.org/about/foundation/, or to the Suburban Hospice Inc., 14297 Bergen Blvd., Noblesville, IN 46060. Envelopes will be available at the mortuary.

Jerry was a kind soul and gave everyone tremendous respect , he actually taught me to love the men and women in law enforcement, thank you and god bless.

My father John Neal sure did think a lot of Jerry. I am John´s daughter and I met Jerry several times . He was a good man. So sorry to hear about this loss. I know my father and him are up there talking about times they were together right now. My father passed in 2005. My prayers and thoughts are with family

Condolences! I knew Jerry from working at the Sheriff's Dept in 1979 -80. He was a great guy.
