Visitation services will be held at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Monroe, NC, on February 9, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a Memorial Service beginning at 2:00 PM. The church is located at 909 Circle Drive, Monroe, NC 28112.
Jerry Lou Messer, 96, born on November 26, 1929, in Gaston County, North Carolina, passed away peacefully on January 24, 2026, in Monroe, North Carolina. A devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Jerry's life was marked by her strong Christian faith and her unwavering love for her children, whom she cherished above all else.
Throughout her life, Jerry dedicated over 30 years to healthcare volunteering, lending her compassionate spirit to the Council on Aging. Her commitment to serving her community exemplified her selflessness and altruistic nature. Jerry was well-known for her remarkable culinary skills; she enjoyed cooking for her family and friends, creating lasting memories around the dining table.
Jerry was a vibrant soul who loved to dance, bringing joy and energy to every occasion. She possessed a deep appreciation for nature, evidenced by her love of flowers and gardening, which she shared with the family she adored.
Jerry is survived by her children, Edwina A. Baucom, and her husband Roger; Elsie Eve Rosford, and her husband Bill; and Charles E. Messer Jr., and his wife Jill. Additionally, she is remembered by her grandchildren, including Amy Rosford Gaddy, Sarah Rosford Rushing, Zan Messer Burick, Ellie Messer Frazier, and Jerrica Baucom Webb, and by her ten great-grandchildren who brought her immense joy.
She was preceded in passing by her beloved husband, Charles E. Messer Sr., who shared with her a lifetime of love and partnership.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke’s Lutheran Church in Monroe, North Carolina, or to Hospice of Union County in Monroe, North Carolina.
