Jerry Clyde Miles was born January 31, 1949, to Lois and Clyde Miles of Sterling, Illinois. Jerry attended high school in Lyndon, Illinois and Whiteside County Vocational School in Sterling, Illinois. In 1969 Jerry married Sharon Moss of Dixon, Illinois and the couple had two sons, Bradley Scott Miles (deceased) and Todd Christopher Miles. Jerry worked 20 years for Williams Pipeline as a welder until he was put on disability in 2000.
Jerry was ordained as a deacon in Mason City, Iowa and served in that capacity in Iowa and Illinois. Jerry definitely had a love for his Lord and never afraid to share about Him to others. Jerry and Sharon helped in church planting in Lyndon, Illinois and Amboy/Sublette Illinois. In 2008 they joined an organization called RVICS “Roving Volunteers in Christ’s Service” and traveled the country doing volunteer missionary work by doing maintenance at church camps, homes for troubled teens and Christian retirement villages.
In 2022 Jerry was diagnosed with two very rare cancers and his attitude has been “God’s in Control” and “I’ll live til I die”. There was no treatment for his disease and a “watch and wait” process style was observed. In 2024 Sharon and Jerry retired to the RVICS Retirement Village in Smithville, Tx. where he served as a shop manager and did lawn care and maintenance for lawn equipment. Jerry everyone’s “pesty brother” in the village and a person people enjoyed being around.
He is survived by his wife, Sharon of 55 years, Smithville, Tx and son Todd Miles, Amboy, Il, daughter-in-law Tammy Miles (Brad) of Dixon, Illinois, five grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
There will be a Celebration of his life October 18, 2025, at the RVICS Village Hall at 1700 SE 4th St., Smithville, Tx. at 11:00 a.m. with lunch provided.
There will also be a Memorial Service October 25, 2025, at Northside Baptist Church at 598 River Lane in Dixon Illinois with visitation at 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. and funeral at 11:00 a.m.
