Jerry A. Pickering, 79

EAST LIVERPOOL – Jerry A. Pickering, of East Liverpool, passed away Monday evening, September 1, 2025, at Trinity West Hospital in Steubenville following a brief illness. He was 79 years old.

Born in East Liverpool, March 1, 1946, a son of the late James A. and Gayle V. Lutton Pickering. He was a member of the East Liverpool High School Class of 1964 and enlisted in the U.S. Navy where he served four years in Vietnam as Seabee. He returned to his hometown and began his career with the U.S. Postal Service as a window clerk at the downtown location until retiring in 2001. While his wife pastored the church, Jerry was active with the Shippingport United Methodist Church for many years. Following her retirement from ministry, they attended the Ohioville Free Methodist Church. He loved the peacefulness of the outdoors, whether on his trips hiking the Appalachian Trail, or assisting with the local Boys Scout Troop. He also enjoyed spending time in his woodshop working with his hands. Above all things in life, he loved his family, especially following the many activities of his ten grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Susan Pickering, whom he married April 11, 1970. There are three children: a daughter, Heather Bouscher and her husband, Glenn, of East Liverpool, and two sons, Nathan Pickering and his wife, Bridget, of Sugar Loaf, New York, and Aaron Pickering of Chester. Also left to cherish his memory are ten grandchildren: Logan, Morgan, Emily, Allison, Dominic, Benjamin, Raegan, Drake, Stephanie and Austin. He also leaves two sisters, Beverly Neer and Ilene Calvas.

Friends may visit Monday at the Dawson Funeral Home where the family will be present from 6:00 to 8:00. Rev. Norman Eckert will conduct a funeral service Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.

Following the service, friends and family will gather at the Dawson Family Center for fellowship.

Memorial contributions may be made in Jerry's memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude’s Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Samaritan's Purse, PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607.
