Jerry “Doc” Proctor
Jerry Richard Proctor passed away peacefully at home on November 5, 2023, after a courageous
battle with lung cancer.
Jerry was commonly and lovingly known by all friends and family as “Doc,” and he was born in
Greenville, SC on January 19, 1953, to the late John “Hoss” Proctor and Frances Holcombe Proctor.
Jerry was a 1971 graduate of Parker High School in Greenville. After graduation, Jerry began a
long and successful career in the electrical and energy fields. Most of his career was spent with Duke
Energy where he excelled as an electrical nuclear maintenance specialist, and after 34 years with Duke
Energy, he retired in 2010. Before and, especially, after retirement, Jerry could often be found hunting
or fishing with friends or family. In addition to Jerry’s successful career, he was a freemason at the Sam
Poe Lodge and Shriner with the York Rites. He was also an active member of the Beachcombers Hejaz
Shriners unit. For all that had the pleasure of knowing Jerry, you knew how much he loved his family,
and the outdoors, and never allowed a good joke or prank to pass him by. “Doc” will always be remembered
for his outgoing personality and, occasionally, stretching the truth for a good story.
Jerry is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 51 years, Libby Reid Proctor. He is
also survived by his two sons, Steed Proctor (Dana), and Nathan Proctor (Stephanie), his grandchildren,
Hanna Parham (Stephen), Henry Proctor (Erika), his step-grandchildren, Elizabeth Ledbetter, Bella
Alvarez, his great-grandchild, James Parham, and sisters, Vicki Sciba, Deree Cisson (Larry), Catherine
Wilson, and Peggy Kirby (Kenneth).
In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Bright.
Visitation will be held at Robinson Funeral Home on Powdersville Road on Thursday, November 9, 2023,
