Haubstadt, INJerry Lee Riffert of Haubstadt, passed peacefully and with grace in the early morning of October 27, 2023, with his family by his side. Predeceased by his loving wife, Juliann Riffert, earlier this year. Jerry was born on August 1, 1930 to Virgil and Zetta (Shuey) Riffert in Haubstadt Indiana.
He graduated from Haubstadt High School in 1947, after he would enlist in the United States Air Force, and bravely serve in the Korean War in 1953. That same year, Jerry would marry his high school sweetheart and the love of his life, Juliann (Lamey) Riffert. They were married on December 26th 1953. Together they were inseparable and well known and loved within their community. Over the years they would raise four children, Jeff, Jay, Jill, and Jana.
After becoming a father, Jerry was inspired to organize the Haubstadt Little League in 1962, one of the organizations he was most proud to be a part of and continued to attend games until the day of his passing. Jerry was a lifelong member of St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and an Honorary Life member of Knights of Columbus #2215 in
Haubstadt, Indiana. Jerry was a simple, hardworking man, working for Emge Packing Co. for 27.5 years until he retired to co-own the successful local liquor store "Maidlow's" and "Tom and Jerrys." Jerry was very active in the Haubstadt Chamber of Commerce and never missed the annual Sommerfest. Jerry is known for his impeccable fitness habits, his golf game, his undying love for Notre Dame Football, his support in local organizations, small businesses, and restaurants, and a man who would give the shirt off his back to any friend or stranger.
Jerry leaves behind his four children- Jeff (Carol) Riffert, Jay Riffert, Jill (Beth) Riffert, and Jana (Tom) Kenney: four grandchildren – Jesse Riffert, Logan Reed, Chase Reed, and Alexis Reed; one great granddaughter – Charly Belle Reed. Along with countless friends and neighbors whom he impacted during his 93 years of life.
Jerry was a veteran, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and the kind of friend everyone was lucky to have. He will be remembered for his loving independent spirit, strength, and loyalty to his family and faith. Although our hearts are heavy, we will celebrate his life and find comfort that he is in heaven watching over us. As a man of strong faith, Jerry wishes to have a celebration of life and a burial next to his beautiful wife Juliann.
