Jerry J Sanftner, was born on August 29, 1938 in Swea City, Iowa to Frank and Mary (Krebsebach) Sanftner. He passed away after a brief illness on September 8, 2025 at the University of Iowa Hospitals, in Iowa City, Iowa.
Jerry graduated from Swea City High School. He was united in marriage to Karen Twedt, the couple had one son Tron. The marriage was later dissolved. Tron passed away in 2010. Jerry enjoyed traveling with his longtime girlfriend Esther Paulsen. They enjoyed going to Doodle Bug Shows and many other trips together.
He had a passion for farming his entire life. He was involved in the Two Cylinder Club, where he showed his John Deere Tractors. Almost weekly Jerry could be found at a sale. He was considered a machinery jockey; buying, fixing or restoring and selling many pieces of equipment throughout the years. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Jerry was an avid Vikings fan.
Jerry is survived by his longtime companion Esther Paulsen of Estherville and his friends Bob and Ruth Nemmers of Swea City.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents, his son Tron, his brothers Paul Sanftner and LeRoy Sanftner, and his sister Jane Thompson.
