Jerry Lee Sentell passed away peacefully on June 30, 2025. He was born on March 26, 1947, in Greenville, South Carolina. Known for his gentle spirit, unwavering faith, and warm heart, Jerry lived a life devoted to loving others and serving his community.
Born with Down syndrome at a time when few resources existed, Jerry defied expectations through a life marked by joy, resilience, and deep connection. He was a shining example of how a kind soul and steadfast faith can leave an enduring impact on those that knew him.
He was the son of the late Ruby Hice and Ben Odell Sentell, and a treasured brother to Joyce Sentell, who survives him, as well as the late Robert, James, and Harold Sentell. Jerry’s memory lives on through his many nieces and nephews, who will forever cherish his kindness and the light he brought into their lives.
Jerry was a longtime member of Mush Creek Baptist Church until its closing, when he joined Foothills Baptist Church. Jerry found deep joy in fellowship and service. He served as an usher at both and was a giver of the best hugs and compliments. His faith shaped the way he lived — with compassion and a genuine love for those around him.
Jerry spent his career at Thrive Upstate, where he was not only a dedicated employee but a loyal friend. Always ready with a kind word or a helping hand, he left a lasting impression on everyone he encountered.
Those who knew Jerry would describe him as welcoming and selfless. Whether at work, church, or spending time with family, he had a way of making people smile. He loved praising the Lord through his singing and dancing. He also loved competing at the Special Olympics, where he proudly medaled numerous times. His steady presence and enormous heart will be profoundly missed.
As we honor Jerry’s life, we remember a man who quietly and consistently made the world better through faith, love, and just being himself. Though his earthly journey has ended, the impact he made will live on in the hearts and memories of those who loved him.
