Jerry Spendlove
PRICE- Jerry Bell Spendlove passed away peacefully at his home in Price, Utah on March 4, 2025. He was born on February 6, 1935, in Pocatello, Idaho to Orville David Spendlove and Susie Mary Bell.
Jerry spent most of his youth in Ogden and Morgan, Utah, where he attended school, graduating from Ogden High in 1953. He joined the Navy during the Korean War and was assigned to the USS Leonard F. Mason D.D. 852, which was a Naval Destroyer ship. He often shared with people that he served in the Navy for 3 years, 10 months and 11 days. After returning home in 1957, he attended college and worked several jobs, including working for Thiokol doing statistics and mathematical analysis for the Minuteman Missile.
While living in Logan, Utah he met and married Lena Marilyn von Niederhausern on November 24, 1959. They later moved to Hiawatha, Utah where Jerry worked for U.S. Fuel as an above ground Electrician. Jerry and Marilyn had three sons, Shaun, Brian and James. After Marilyn's illness, Jerry was left alone to raise his three sons. He met Bernice Nelson from Logan, Utah who was living in Price, and they were married in the Logan Temple on May 19, 1972. With Bernice, Jerry became the father of two more sons, Glen and Scott. Jerry and Bernice built a home in Price where they raised their family.
While working as an electrician in Hiawatha in 1979, Jerry was seriously injured in an electrical accident where he came in contact with 11,000 volts of electricity. He nearly died, but after several months he was able to recover and continue to raise his family. When the Hiawatha mine closed in 1990, Jerry became a Master Electrician and started working for Salt Lake Community College as an electrician.
After he retired, Jerry spent the rest of his healthy life visiting his children and grandchildren, including his sons Glen and Scott who were at the time living in Tucson, Arizona and Goodyear, Arizona. Jerry and Bernice drove to Arizona over 70 times to visit for every family baptism, baby blessing, and any birthday they could make an excuse to come to. They also enjoyed spending time with Shaun's family living in Helper and with Brian and James, living in Logan and Price, respectively.
Jerry loved his family and enjoyed taking them on many outings. They could be seen on their motorcycles on the dirt roads around Carbon and Emery Counties or on a lake in their boat. Camping was always a fun experience and there were lots of picnics. He was very active and loved swimming, biking, hiking, shooting bow and arrows and guns. He really enjoyed watching old movies and playing card games with his wife and kids, including Rook, Monopoly Deal, Phase 10 and many others.
As a son of God and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, he was a great lover of Jesus and the scriptures and enjoyed sharing his knowledge with others. He loved teaching Sunday School. He would attend the temple often with his wife, Bernice.
He is survived by his wife Bernice; his sons, Shaun (Tera Wimmer), Brian, James, Glen (Stacy Curtis), and Scott (Liana Gladwill); sixteen grandchildren, Joseph, Jared (Aiyuan Xing), Lillian, Amanda, Cam, Emma (Ryan Stone), Lucy (Ben Hill), Eli, Sylvia, Thomas, Isabell, Susie (Dilan Fernando), Hyrum, Haley, Logan, and Eliza; and two great granddaughters, Saylor and Summer.
He was preceded in death by his first wife Marilyn and his parents Orville David and Susie Mary Bell Spendlove.
Funeral service, Friday, March 14th, 2025, 12:00 noon, at the Price 1st Ward Chapel (150 South 500 East Price, UT) where the family will receive friends Friday morning from 10:00-11:45. Graveside service, Saturday, March 15, 2025, 12:00 noon, at the Milton Cemetery (181 N Morgan Valley Dr, Morgan, UT 84050).
