Jerry Don "Gramps" Still passed away peacefully on Friday, July 25, in Conway, Arkansas.
Born on November 8, 1949, in Hope, Arkansas, Jerry was the third of four children of Lee and June Thompson Still. He grew up in Hope, where he spent an adventurous childhood hunting and fishing-passions that stayed with him for life and were best shared with his brother David, cousin Randy, his close hunting buddies, and later with his son Jonathan, and grandchildren.
A 1968 graduate of Hope High School, Jerry was a proud member of the football and track teams all four years with All-District honors. After graduation, he joined the family's plaster and drywall business, where he built a highly respected reputation for craftsmanship. His work contributed to the restoration of notable landmarks like Historic Old Washington in Hope, and Bathhouse Row in Hot Springs. He was also known as a great coach for local soccer, and baseball teams in Texarkana during the nineties.
Though a heart attack and open-heart surgery in 2012 led to early retirement, Jerry embraced the slower pace. He spent time in Hot Springs, enjoying the horse races and the peace of the condo he shared with his beloved partner, Ann. He also found joy in his weekly fishing trips with Jonathan and his grandchildren, and in the company of his dogs-Tallulah, Vivianne, and Henry-who never left his side on walks and brought him endless comfort and companionship.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, his brother David, and a nephew, Lamar Still. He is survived by his son Jonathan; daughter-in-law Brittany; and grandchildren Scarlett and Maddox, all of Conway. He also leaves behind his sister, Linda; brother, Tommy; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and Ann, the love of his life.
No formal services are planned. His ashes will be lovingly scattered by family at a later time.
