Bristol, VA - Jerry L. Wilson, age 79, passed on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at his home. He was born December 6, 1943, in Meadowview, Virginia to the late Lewis Summers Wilson & Ruth Shore Wilson. Jerry grew up in Washington County Virginia and was a graduate of Abingdon High School and attended Blue Ridge College. He coached Little League Baseball for decades and served on The Washington Recreation Advisory Board. Jerry was also an active member and past President of the Bristol Goodson Lions Club and a member of the Sons of the American Revolution.
Most of all he was a devoted Christian and active member of Victory Baptist Church since 1977. Jerry retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation after 33 years of service. Jerry loved the Lord first followed by his family. He was a great mentor to all young men on how a man should be. In addition to his parents, Jerry was preceded in death by two siblings, Lewis Rex Wilson and Roma Wilson Baker.
Jerry is survived by loving wife of 59 years, Judy Layne Wilson; two sons, Kelly Scott Wilson and Kevin Shane Wilson wife Stacy; five grandchildren, Ashley Offield and husband Nathan, Matthew S Wilson, Meagan Wilson, Keeley Wilson Mays, and Denver Shane Wilson; eight great grandchildren, Makenzie, Kamiya, Leah, Andrew, Olivia, Jackson, Eloise, and William; two sisters, Kate Cook and Doris Musick; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation with the family will be held 5-7 p.m. Thursday, July 20, 2023, in the Forest Hills Chapel of Farris Funeral Service. Funeral services will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Dr. Austin Cook officiating. A private entombment will be held in the Serenity Gardens Mausoleum of Forest Hills Memory Gardens.
