Jesse Charlson Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Crews Funeral Home on Apr. 8, 2025.
Jesse Martin Charlson, known to most as "Buddy," passed away peacefully on April 2, 2025, in Oklahoma City, just shy of his 82nd birthday. Born on April 16, 1943, in Ninnekah, Oklahoma, Buddy was a lifelong resident of the state he loved, making his home in Cement, Oklahoma, for many cherished years.
Buddy married the love of his life, Martha Lynn Charlson, on July 6, 1963, in Anadarko, Oklahoma. Together they built a life full of love, laughter, and everlasting memories. A proud graduate of Ninnekah High School, Buddy began his education at Keechi School before it closed.
Buddy was a man of many passions. He had a deep love for the outdoors-whether it was hunting (especially for mushrooms), fishing, rooster fighting, or spending time golfing. He never missed watching an Oklahoma City Thunder game with his Great Grandson Wayden, and enjoyed every opportunity to share a pot of coffee and a good story with friends at Trace Pump. He had a gift for music, playing numerous instruments, and was always ready with a joke or prank that left everyone laughing. His greatest joy came from spoiling his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, all of whom he adored with his whole heart.
In addition to his many hobbies, Buddy had a spirited personality, often displaying a short temper that was as well-known as his kindness and generosity.
He is survived by his loving wife of over 61 years, Martha Lynn Charlson; Siblings: Pat Planz and Delores Davidson (and husband George); Children: Son, Johnny Charlson and Daughter, Jessie Charlson; Grandchildren: Paige Fulton, Allison Day, and Diego Zepeda (and wife Hailee Zepeda); Great-Grandchildren: Wayden Simmons, Kaulin Crow, Nash Redden, and Holden Jesse Zepeda, proudly named after his great-grandfather. Buddy also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends who were like family.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Martin Theodore and Martha Florence Charlson; his in-laws; his brother, Marlin Charlson; and his brother-in-law, Bill Planz.
A celebration of Buddy's life will be held on Wednesday, April 16, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Cement, Oklahoma, with Lori Stinnet officiating. Flowers may be sent to Cement First Baptist Church until 1:00 p.m. on the day of the service.
Buddy Charlson was a true original-kind-hearted, quick-witted, and deeply loved. His legacy lives on in the stories he told, the music he played, and the family he cherished. He will be dearly missed.
