Jesse Shelton "John" Smothers of Campbellsville, the son of the late Jesse and Lillian (Gribbins) Smothers, was born July 9, 1945 in Marion County, KY and departed this life on Saturday, July 19, 2025 at his home. He was 80 years of age.
He made a profession of faith in Christ and was a member of the Faith Union Baptist Church.
He was a Veteran, having served in the United States Army National Guard and was a former employee of Fruit of the Loom and a bus driver for the Taylor County School System.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother and two sisters: Ricky Smothers, Nancy Lemmon and Dorothy Newton.
Survivors include his wife: Dianne Kay (Bradshaw) Smothers of Campbellsville; a daughter: Eleasia Radcliff and husband Chris of New Castle, Indiana; a son: Mark Smothers of Campbellsville.
Also surviving is a sister: Geneva Persun of Magnolia; eight grandchildren: Dustin Ibarra (Kaleb), Dalton Smothers, Alyssa Wethington (Dustin), Melina Smothers, Samuel Smothers, Nicholas Radcliff (Sarah Jo), Colton Radcliff (Rosie) and MacKenzie Radcliff; a great-grandson: Ryan Wethington and a host of other relatives and friends.
The funeral service for Jesse Shelton "John" Smothers will be Tuesday, July 22, 2025 at 11:00 A.M. in the chapel of the L.R. Petty Funeral Home with burial to follow in the Brookside Cemetery with Military Honors.
Bro. Donnie Warren and Bro. Nathan Rayburn will be officiating.
Family requests visitation from 5-8 P.M. on Monday at the funeral home.
