Jesse Gibson Williams, a native of Pine Bluff, Arkansas and a resident of Fairhope, Alabama for the past 49 years, passed away on Sunday, January 12, 2025, at the age of 97.
Jesse attended the Coast Guard Academy and went on to graduate from the University of Mississippi, where he was a member of the SAE Fraternity and was a proud Rebel. He served in the United States Navy and served two tours in South Korea and received 2 silver bars as a Full Lieutenant. He spent his career as an engineer in the paper mill industry.
Jesse served as a Scoutmaster for 10 years, while his son was in the Boy Scouts. He was a long time member of the Fairhope United Methodist Church, where he served many years as an usher. Jesse had a heart to serve others, and he delivered Meals on Wheels for over 35 years. Jesse enjoyed flying, sailing and reading. He loved working in his yard and riding on his lawnmower. He definitely had a green thumb and could root any flower and make it grow. He had the biggest, prettiest camellia bushes and he got much enjoyment from taking cuttings and rooting them and giving them away to family, friends and neighbors. Jesse worked in his yard until he was 96 years old.
Jesse is preceded in death by his precious wife of 72 years, Betty Y. Williams, his daughter, Laurel Ann Williams, and his brother, Bill Williams. He is survived by his children, Jeff Williams (Cris), Beth Knight (Van), and Lee Williams (Casey); daughter-in-law, Karen Williams; grandchildren, Jeremy Knight (Kristan), Chris Knight (Melissa), Catherine Gradle (Taylor), Kendra Williams, Jenna Connolly (Mark), Hadley Callender (Blaine), Taylor Williams (Brittany), Net Williams, Parker Pittman (Caleb), and Hannah Zito (Russell); great-grandchildren, Baker, William, Ann Douglas, Fuller, Laurel, Andrew, Peyton Ann, Savannah, Riley Lynn, Lily Hammett, and Charlie; along with other family members and friends.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at Fairhope United Methodist Church, 155 S. Section Street, Fairhope, AL, on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 3PM. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation before the service beginning at 2PM.
Hughes Funeral Home, 26209 Pollard Road, Daphne, AL, is assisting the family.
