It is with deep sorrow and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Jessica Chere Burgess, who chose to leave the struggles of this life on September 25th, 2025. Jessica was born in Apple Valley, CA, to Lisa Hutchings and Jesse Sisk on August 1, 1978 and while she lived many places throughout the years, she called Utah home because it was near those who she loved.
To say that Jessica touched the lives of everyone who knew her would be to put it lightly. She was warm, loving, creative, and incredibly empathetic. She was a beautiful, strong, entirely selfless and compassionate daughter, everyone's favorite sister, each niece or nephew's favorite aunt. In fact, she devoted the last years of her life to being the best aunt possible. She spent several days each week with her nephew Max, whether in the backyard garden or at the local park, braving heat or cold to enrich his life. She also attended sporting, music, and school events to support the other nieces and nephews, or simply spent time with them so that each felt her love and care.
Jessica had a wonderful creative spirit, whether in paint, clay, fiber, or any other medium she chose. Her room was full of art, both of her own creation and others. Her last project involved creating a Nalbound pet bed, evidence of her passion for the cats that were always present in her life. She loved nature and would never be caught harming even the smallest bug, even if they were trying to thwart the growing of her beautiful huge sunflowers that everyone could admire as they drove by the home.
Jessica was passionate about all people deserving basic human rights and vocal about unfairness in the world, though it weighed heavy on her heart. She advocated for those who could not advocate for themselves and wanted the world to be a better place for everyone. She would want each of us to continue to fight for justice and equity in memory of her.
Jessica is survived by her parents, Lisa (Brice) Hutchings and Jesse (Kristy) Sisk, her siblings Jenn (Aubrey) Rice, Morgan Burgess, Casey (Ashley) Burgess, Keeley (Wei) Xie, and Cory (Erin) Burgess, and her step son Nathaniel. She is preceded in death by her grandparents, Ross Lawrence and Joy Roundy, and Arlen and Marlene Sisk.
We will remember Jessica always as a loving, devoted daughter, mother, sister, and aunt. We know that she was greeted with loving arms and is finally at peace. All our love Jessica.
