Remembering My Friend:
I truly miss our coffee time together and his check list of what I needed to do for my car. First question, how many miles do you have on that car and how many miles are you getting to the gallon? I could never give him the answer, but it was the fun of the fellowship.

MR CAMPBELL WAS A HARD WORKER WHO WAS VERY DEVOTED TO HIS WIFE AND CHILDREN. IT WAS A PLEASURE GROWING UP IN THE CAMPBELL HOUSEHOLD, ESPECIALLY WHEN MR CAMPBELL WAS HOME. HIS INTERACTION WITH POLLY MADE GENEE AND I LAUGH ALL THE WAY TO ADULTHOOD. I HAD SO MUCH FUN IN MY 2ND HOME WITH THE CAMPBELL'S.

It's hard for me to put into words what my grandfather meant to me. Just the feeling that he was always proud of me, no matter what. And the relationship he had with everyone around him. I can say I'm blessed to know that all 4 of my grandparents on a respectable level. Just the feeling of the house up in NY without him in it is something that I'm gonna have to get use to. My entire life, I've never been in that house without him there. We're all going to miss him a lot. But I'm happy that he's at peice. And his legacy still lives in all of us who knew him.

When I think of Uncle Hugh I can't help but smile. He knew how to make you feel loved and for a child there is nothing better than that. I can remember always wanting to visit him because he was so funny and cheerful and loving. He reached a place in my heart that is so deep and so pure that even as an adult I felt like a happy and loved little girl in his presence. I still feel that way when I think of him now, what a wonderful gift he has given me! I hope he knew that I loved him too. My Uncle Hugh, I will miss him immensely.

I will always remember how "sharp" Uncle Hugh dressed. He always had a smile and took time to listen. "Hello, baby sweet", is what he would say, then proceed to make you ache with laughter! I know you and my dad and sisters are enjoying many good stories right now. Miss you madly, and may God bless you.

Ms. Polly, Genee and Jasmine,

When I met Mr. Campbell for the first time, I remember being absolutely AMAZED the he drove all the way from NY to NC in one day! Upon meeting him, I then understood. This was a strong willed, focused young man who had a very clear clarity of thought. He seemed like such a good, decent man that really loved himself some Polly.

My thoughts and prayers continue to be with you during this time in your lives.

Genee', Polly and Jasmine,
When we "first" met Hugh it was as though we were reunited with an old and dear friend. There was no formality - only genuine love and kindness (and lots of laughs)! He will always be remembered and just thinking of him brings a smile to our faces and warms our hearts. He will be missed. May his legacy live on in all of you. We pray that God will hold and keep you every so close and that his breath will bring you comfort. We love you.

Dear Campbells,

In the past 45 years I have been a
party to many of the dynamics that
make you the family you are today.
I now find myself among the count-
less friends and family members that are celebrating the life of
"POP".

Thank your all for this opportunity.

Be Blessed,

Many thoughts of Uncle Hugh (tenderly, gently and softly) fill our hearts and minds; and these warmest memories will forever remain. May your wonderful memories formed down through the years and the legacy he built, help strengthen you all during these trying times. May God continue to give you the strength to endure what you are now facing.
It was so touching to see his children and grandchildren have enough strength to stand up and have courage to speak at such a moment. It says a lot to hear that all were his favorite. We should all take note and share this leagacy of his. Uncle Hugh will always hold a special place in our hearts.

Genee, thank you for giving me the oppurtunity to tell you this lovely story. One of my friends and her husband serenaded me with "Peg Of My Heart" on the evening of the funeral because I told them that's the only name Uncle Hugh ever called me. I said that it was the title of a song, but I'd never heard it, and they began to sing, right in the parking lot! It was so wonderful because it felt like something Uncle Hugh would do. I got in my car and said out loud, "Uncle Hugh, thanks for the memories." He was so special to my Dad and the rest of us, and I'm so glad that I, like so many of your "kin", have inherited his love of family and home. May God's blessings be with you and your family. Your cousin,Peggy.

Hugh was a delight to know! My family and I will always remember his wonderful smile and laughter as he would greet me and say, "Peg of my heart..........is T.A. treating you all right?" Fond memories will be treasured of Polly & Hugh and my family raising our wonderful children - and sharing our love. We are so blessed to have had him in our life and see the fruits of his desire now realized in the family he has left behind. He is in heaven, smiling down at us, and knowing everything is going to be all right!!

We will truly miss our Uncle Hugh.
He has always been our second dad. Always on the phone with my dad Henry Author, we would say who is that daddy, Uncle Hugh? We always new that it was him just from the conversation. Daddy would never click the phone over for another call, always laughing and carrying on, they were so close. Daddy always said he was like a brother to him. Yes it is true that they worked on more cars than ford motors one of the many things they had in common. While they were working on the cars Aunt Polly and Mommy were hanging out in the kitchen or in the living room and you could always smell some pintos cooking. It was always good to see every one when they were in town we would look at pictures and reminisce when we were small, just have a good time. We have all grown up now but we will always be family and stay in touch with one another. Remember we are always here. Love you all so much. The Johnson gang.

Dear Alice:

May The Almighty God Bless the soul of your father and comfort you and the family during this time of separation.

Your father always impressed me as a model of how a man should live amongst others and was one of the men along with my father that I utilized as a role model for the type of father I wanted to be.

God Bless,

After reading Mr. Campbell's legacy, it is so easy to understand the love and joy I see in Genee's eyes when she talks about her family. The common bond in our work/friend relationship is our love of family and from what I just read I can see that this characteristic was firmly implanted by her father and is one that will always live on. There really are no words to adequately express my feelings to the Campbell family, but my wish is that they continue to wrap themselves in the wonderful memories they have, knowing that Mr. Campbell's loving legacy survives in their hearts.

I will never forget you Uncle Hugh. I remember that whistle you used to have every time you would come over to the house. And as a little kid you always gave me a quarter from your pocket and ask me if the girls were treating me right. I remember when you helped me pull out one of my baby teeth and it didn't even hurt. I am going to miss you uncle. Your memories will now inspire me and my children as i have always told them about you. I know that you and my pops are really having a good time now. Love you.
