BRIDGES, Pastor Jewell-age 71, of Flint, passed away Friday, July 25, 2025 at McLaren Flint. A memorial service will be held 2:00pm Wednesday, August 6, 2025 at Sheldon T. Banks Funeral Chapel, 3021 S. Dort Hwy., Flint, MI 48507.
Pastor Jewell Ray Bridges was born February 4, 1954, in Tylertown, MS, the son of James (J.L.) Bridges and Leola Love-Bridges. Pastor Jewell Bridges accepted Christ at a young age and was licensed and ordained at age 16 by the late L.W. Pryor of Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. He received his seminary training at Mt Calvary Baptist Church and later was Pastor of Pleasant Love Missionary Baptist Church. He attended Flint Public Schools graduating from Flint Northern High School Class of 1972. After high school he attended Mott Community College and worked for several manufacturing companies. Pastor Jewell's pass time was nurturing, supporting and caring for his congressional members. Pastor Bridges enjoyed eating sweets in his spare time. He loved football, basketball, and sci-fi television.
He leaves to cherish his memory: brothers, James (Luann) Bridges of Bryant, AR and Glen Bridges of Dallas, TX; sisters, Susan Finley and Sherisa Bridges both of Flint, MI; stepbrothers, Coy Collins, Anthony (Shannon), Pastor Ed (Sarah) Brown; several nephews and nieces all over the U.S including special nephews, Cartier Younger and TyArre Younger; a host of other relatives and friends including special friends, Pastor Daniel Bridges, aunt Lyla Lewis, and Charlie Gray.
Pastor Jewell Bridges was preceded in death by: wife, Thelma Bridges; parents, Leola Love-Bridges and James Bridges; grandparents, Lester Jefferson and Ardella Jefferson, Coy and Daisy (Parkman) Bridges; multiple aunts, uncles, and cousins.
