Jill Low Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Struve and Laporte Funeral Chapel on Jun. 13, 2025.
Jill Anne Low (Price) passed away June 8, 2025, at her home after a brief illness.
Jill was born November 2, 1954, in Eureka, CA. She was a middle child, just a few minutes older than her twin brother, Joel, but several years younger than her brother Eric. The children along with their parents, Alfred (Al) Elmo and Betty Jo Price, lived in King City until 1964 when they moved to Salinas, CA. Jill graduated from Salinas High School in 1972.
Jill became a mother to her first child, a daughter, Shawna (spouse Kevin Strait) and in 1980 she welcomed a second child, a son, Justin. Jill was introduced to horses, a lifelong love, by first husband James (Jim) MacArthur. Jill's blossoming passion for sewing and embroidering helped her create costumes for her children to wear while competing in horse parades.
In mid 1980, Jill returned to college and achieved her Bachelor of Arts degree, and she earned her Teaching credentials in 1991. She influenced many students over the years through teaching at different schools, including Highland Elementary School, J.C. Crumpton, and George. E Marshall schools. While working for Monterey Peninsula Unified School District, Jill was elect Union President of the Monterey Bay Teacher's Association. Jill loved being able to help her fellow teachers through negotiations with the school district for better pay, benefits and retaining teachers.
In 1991, while chaperoning a class from Salinas for a school function at the San Juan Bautista Mission, Jill met the love of her life John (Jack) Low. Jack and Jill were later married in 1994 and spent twenty wonderful years together.
Jill retired from teaching in 2017 and shortly after she started taking care of her mother, Betty-Jo (Price) Mueller. Jill was elated to have been able to spend that time with her mom.
Jill also found time to work on many quilts and joined several quilting guilds where she had entered some of her quilts in fairs and won some ribbons for her efforts!
Jill loved to sew, quilt, bead, crochet and knit, but her favorite hobby was to embroider gifts for family and friends. Jill also loved the ocean, frequenting Lover's Point. She was also an avid reader
Jill was preceded in death parents Alfred Price and Betty Jo (Price) Mueller, her husband, Jack, and her brother Eric.
Jill is survived by her brother Joel (Karen) Price, daughter Shawna (Kevin) Strait, son Justin MacArthur, grandchildren Zachary, Kevin and Elizabeth Ackerman, 1 great grandchild, and other family members.
There will be a Celebration of Life held Thursday June 19th at Stevie's Family Restaurant, 17629 Vierra Canyon Rd, Prunedale, CA 93907 at 11:00 am. In Lieu of flowers please bring a potluck item (optional) and memories to share. Beverages and appetizers will be provided.

I am sorry to hear that we have lost Jill. She really cared about her fellow teachers and friends. I am glad that she had time to spend with her family, grandchildren and great grandchild. The smile on her face showed her love of family. Her quilting, crocheting, needlework and sewing were true gifts.i will miss her, even though my health in recent years has kept me from visiting with her recently. May her family enjoy many memories of her.
Hugs, Linda Sanders

I had the honor to know Jill as an educator and a quilter. As President of the Union, she provided professional leadership and was respected by all. She was devoted to her students and made a difference in their lives. As a quilter, she created beautiful artistic quilts - always for one of her beloved family members. She will be missed by many.
