Jill found peace in January in her direct and short journey to Heaven.
Jill was born on July 31,1966 to Robert and Mary Mammini in San Francisco. She was the youngest of her siblings, Kim Biagi and Michael Mammini. Jill started at We Care Center for Developmentally Disabled Children in Concord at age 2. She attended Kindergarten at Silverwood Elementary and then Highlands Elementary through 8th grade. She received her Certificate of Completion from Clayton Valley High School in 1986 and walked the Pavilion steps with the entire graduating class. This group of kids at the school was so inclusive of Jill and her classmates, allowing her to participate in the Women's Club and being part of the first class of Special kids ever to walk those steps!
At age 21, she left our home and moved to Concord House to start her life independently and then to Concord Residential Club at age 26 before moving into her own apartment, living independently at age 28. She loved her independence and later enjoyed living in her own condo for 20 years. After she was unable to live alone, she moved home while we explored other residential options. We found the perfect group home QUALITY LIVING, maintaining her independence. We couldn't have asked for more loving and caring people who we call family and where she was nicknamed "the Princess". She also attended VistAbility's George Miller Center Concord Senior and TLC Program where she participated in recreational and leisure activities that she was passionate about and where she loved to help others and brought them joy.
That was Jill. She inspired all to their fullest and never settled for less than 110% of her best. She worked at Carl's Junior in San Ramon for over 13 years taking Bart and the bus daily. She then worked at Safeway in downtown Concord as a Courtesy Clerk for 19.5 years of service, missing the 20-year mark due to the first signs of dementia. Even with her limited access to transportation, she was NEVER late, arriving at least an hour early, showing her conscientious work ethic until her retirement in July 2022, where she was celebrated at her Party!
Jill was always a loving, sweet girl with a mischievous wit and big sense of humor. She was known by many in Concord just by her big smile, baseball cap and sunglasses making her way to work or visits to friends. She was a fighter until the end and her nephews called her "their little Warrior".
From her early years she participated in almost every Special Olympic event, winning most "gold" as she was so athletic and competitive but with a helping soft spot for some who struggled to play. Even before she was old enough to formally participate in Special Olympics' she came in 1st place, running past the older participants in Track and Field to cross the finish line first. She later participated in most events (based on her work schedule) including swimming, bowling, basketball (even at 4'7") volleyball, softball (Buster Posey in girl form), golf, bocce, downhill and cross-country skiing and even weightlifting. For those who know Jill, even at 4'7", 110 pounds she played as if she was 6'7" and 310 pounds, letting no one stop her. That was Jill! No one could stop her enthusiasm, her angelic, kind, loving heart with a fierce and compassionate intensity.
Her love of sports brought her so much joy. She would call Dad after the games to talk about the outcome, sometimes making suggestions of how the players could have performed better to win or have a better score but would say, "they did their best". She was a "Bay Area Sports Girl", loving the SF 49ers, throwing the first pitch at an Oakland A's game and receiving the 2nd base used during the first 3 innings at a SF Giants game when she turned 50 with her family and friends present to clap as her name flashed on the scoreboard.
She thoroughly enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Every holiday was magical because of her smile and bright light. She enjoyed eating waffles at IHOP, Spaghetti Factory for her friends' birthdays, attending SF Giants Spring Training or just time watching a sporting event.
Her birthdays were a BIG thing. Her 30th a big party with lots of dancing and laughter. Her 40th in Disneyland, her 50th the 2nd base event in addition to a family party of almost 100 guests at the Mammini family home. As part of her living, her gift of life continues through Down Syndrome and Dementia Research. We wish to thank Dr. Brian Honbo and his staff for their compassion and caring concern for Jill's well-being for over 15 years. Additionally, the team at La Casa Via Transitional Care for their extraordinary care and kindness toward Jill and our family.
She is survived by her loving parents, Robert and Mary Mammini, sister, Kim, brother, Michael (Elizabeth), nephews and niece, Christopher, Mitchell, Gregory and Lauren and great niece, Luna, Auntie Dorothy, Bob's sister, Mary, Godmother, Jan and so many loving cousins and other families and friends who know she is in our hearts forever. She joined her grandparents, great grandparents, Aunt Trudy, her Godfather, Bill, Uncle John and Uncle Ang and so many others who predeceased her and welcomed her Home through the gates of heaven.
