Jim Child, born on November 21, 1953, in Topeka, Kansas, took his final bow on March 22, 2025, in Kansas City, Kansas, surrounded by the warmth of family. He was a man of many facets, embodying a spirit that was both deeply rooted in the land and elevated by his adventures across the vast range of life experiences.

Jim's journey began at Jackson Heights High School, where he graduated in 1971, laying the foundation for a life devoted to service and hard work. Embracing a call to duty, he served honorably in the United States Navy from 1971 to 1977, making his mark aboard the USS Queenfish SSN 651 submarine. His commitment was a testament to his character—a life spent in service to others.

Post-military life saw Jim navigating the corridors of the United States Postal Service, where he began as a mail carrier and honed his skills through various roles, retiring as an accomplished electrician. The steadfastness exhibited in his career was mirrored in his passion for farming, where on days away from work, he found solace and joy amidst sprawling fields. Jim's connection to the earth was beautifully embodied in his cherished first tractor, a John Deere G, a symbol of his love for the outdoors and the simplicity of rural life.

His personality was filled with humor and a touch of ornery mischief. He was the type of person who lent a helping hand wherever needed, always eager to share a laugh or a moment with those around him. A devoted animal lover, he opened his heart and home to every stray in need, fostering companionship with numerous dogs and cats, each one a testament to his generous spirit.

Jim was profoundly social, relishing the chance to connect with family and friends, whether gathered on his cherished land or working on his beloved 1963 SS Impala—a nod to his need for speed. Beside his love for machines, he found immense joy in the presence of family, fostering relationships that spanned generations.

He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter as noted in the hearts of his surviving family, including his two cherished daughters, Katie (Casey) Giddens and Jamie (Billy) Kelly, as well as his beloved grandchildren, Haven and Grayson Kelly. His mother, Mary Child, and siblings Connie Waller, Don Child, Dan Child, and Deb Weaver carry his memory forward, alongside numerous nephews and nieces who will cherish the many lessons imparted by their loving uncle. Jim also leaves behind his ex-wife, Beth Child, with whom he shared precious moments and the joys of parenthood.

Jim now joins his late father, Douglas "Bud" Child, in eternal rest, leaving an indelible mark on all who were fortunate enough to know him.

Cremation is planned.
