Jim Graham Obituary
Jim Allen Graham, aged 72, passed away on February 22, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones at his home in Fort Smith, Arkansas. Born on March 1, 1951, in Woodland, California, he was the son of Fred and Geneva Graham. On May 22, 1971, Jim married the love of his life, Sherry Gale Smith, at Concord Baptist Church. Their enduring marriage spanned 53 years, marked by a shared commitment to building a beautiful life together. Jim's devotion to his family was unwavering, as he cherished his role as a dedicated husband, pops, papa, father, brother, and friend. A proud veteran, Jim served his country in the U.S. Army and received recognition for his service, including the National Defense Service Medal and the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal. Following his military service, he embarked on a civilian career at Fort Chaffee and the McAlester Army Ammunition Plant until his retirement in 2013. Retirement brought Jim back home to Fort Smith, where he found solace and joy in his garden. He poured his heart into cultivating and nurturing his plants, finding peace in the act of tending to the earth. His meticulous care extended to his yard, where he spent countless hours ensuring its beauty and upkeep. When not immersed in his garden or yard work, Jim could often be found enjoying leisurely walks with his faithful companion, "Bandit." A passionate fan of the Hogs, he delighted in cheering them on and following their games. Yet, above all, Jim's life was anchored in his deep faith and relationship with God, which served as a guiding light throughout his journey. Jim leaves behind his beloved wife, Sherry, their children Kristi Graham and Justin Graham (married to Kerrie), and their grandchildren Brayden Allen Graham, Kaylie Graham, and Jaden Allen Graham. He is also survived by his brother Steve Graham and sister-in-law Denise Graham of Van Buren, Arkansas, along with dear friends Vernetta and Sammy Kinchion, and a host of other family and friends. A celebration of Jim's life will be held on Wednesday, February 28th, 10:30 a.m., at First Assembly of God in Van Buren, officiated by Brother Britt Brooks. Honorary pallbearers will include Jim's nephews Gene Mentink, Danny Mentink, and Rod Mentink and Josh Elliott. Contributions in Jim's memory may be made to ALS Research or the Arkansas ALS Chapter at www.als.org. Services are under the thoughtful care of River Glenn Cremation and Funeral Services.

Jim came over with a big bag of cucumbers and tomatoes as a neighborly welcome. He even helped us set up our gazebo in the summer heat a few years ago. We always enjoyed watching him and Bandit come down the road from their long walks, and admired how dedicated he was to keeping his garden flush every season. He was one of the best neighbors we've had in a long time. He will definitely be missed.
