Jim Jaussi Obituary

Richfield, Utah - James Rolland Jaussi was born in Montpelier, Idaho to Rolland Luther and Jean Weaver Jaussi, on August 28, 1940. Dr. Jaussi passed away July 18, 2025, at the age of 84 in Richfield, Utah.

As a young man, Jim enjoyed fishing, swimming, water skiing, and spending time with his father building homes. Yellowstone National Park was a favorite vacation spot for his parents and his siblings, Diana and John. Jim attended Montpelier High School where he met the love of his life, Sherleen Hoskins. After completing a church mission in Western Germany, he married Sherleen for time and all eternity in the Logan Utah Temple in 1963.

Jim graduated from Utah State University in 1964 with Honors. He attended Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago, Illinois, where he graduated with Honors in 1968. In 1969, he completed his internship at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City, Utah, followed by his residency in OB/GYN at Harbor General Hospital, a division of UCLA. As a Major in the Army, Jim practiced OB/GYN for two years at Irwin Army Hospital in Fort Riley, Kansas. He then entered private practice where he poured his heart and soul into practicing medicine and serving all of his patients. He strived to provide excellent medical care over a 30-year career. It brought him true fulfillment to see his patients healthy and happy.

Jim was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving in various positions. He was on three different High Councils, served as Bishop twice and many other callings. He tirelessly served church members and the community through individualized and personal fellowship and service. After retirement, he dedicated his time as an ordnance worker for 12 years at the Manti Temple. Jim and Sherleen also completed an 18-month mission as temple ordinance workers in the Nauvoo Illinois Temple. As an avid genealogist, Jim used the German he learned during his mission service to discover thousands of names of his ancestors from Welzheim, Germany.

Jim and Sherleen have seven wonderful children. Jim loved watching them play various sports including football, basketball, volleyball, and baseball. He also found great joy in seeing them swim, dance, cheerlead, and do gymnastics. Family boating trips to Steinaker, Red Fleet, and Flaming Gorge were among the highlights of their time spent together, however, their favorite family vacations were to Lake Powell in the summer to enjoy the warm weather and water sports. He and Sherleen had many cherished retirement years in Richfield and enjoyed planting flowers and working in the yard. Their fondest time together was sitting across from each other in their favorite chairs enjoying being together. One of his ultimate joys was serving his children, grandchildren and friends. His expressions of love included playing connect four, practicing speech therapy, helping with chemistry, math, and psychology, practicing Duolingo, an occasional TikTok video dance, and mental health discussions. When others asked Jim for help with life challenges, he gave his undivided attention, deep concern, wisdom and all of his life experiences. Jim had a passion for learning and would routinely get lost yellow highlighting and annotating his current book of study. He had a love for life and laughing. As his good friends know, he never missed a joke punchline when it was fully explained in scientific terms.

Jim is survived by his sweetheart, Sherleen; their children Jan (Michael) Franks, Roseville, CA; Judy Magleby, St. George, UT; Jean (Robert) Merrill, Heber City, UT; James Elden (Joanne) Jaussi, El Dorado Hills, CA; Jeffrey Rolland (Kelly) Jaussi, Frisco, Texas; Julie (Jay) Irvin, Meridian, ID; and Joshua Shane (Summer) Jaussi, El Dorado Hills, CA; twenty-two grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Karolyn Alleman, Bern, ID.

He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Diana, and brother-in-law, Dwight Utley; brother, John and sister-in -law Sandra; and brother-in-law Larry Alleman.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 26, 2025, at 1:00 P.M. in the Richfield 10th LDS Ward Chapel, 675 West 200 South in Richfield, where friends may call for viewing Saturday morning from 10:00 to 12:30 prior to the services.
