It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of Jim A. Kunz, a beloved resident of Valencia County. Jim passed away peacefully on Oct. 29, 2024, at the age of 70, surrounded by family. Born on Feb. 11, 1954, in Greeley, Colo., to Donald and LaDonna Kunz.
Jim was a vibrant soul known for his talents, his generosity and his commitment to his family and community. Jim attended Belen High School, after which he served one tour in the U.S. Army, displaying the same dedication to his country that he brought to his family and career. Jim married the love of his life in 1972, they were married for 52 blessed years. Returning to Los Chavez, Jim continued to be a devoted husband to his wife, and a successful business owner. Together, Jim and Cris made their dream a reality, owning and operating C&J's Restaurant for 39 years - a cherished local establishment that became a gathering place and source of pride in the community.
A true master craftsman, Jim had an extraordinary talent and passion for restoring classic muscle cars, crafting some of the most striking and intricate builds from the ground up. In his downtime, he found joy in simpler pastimes, like scouring yard sales with Cris for hidden treasures. Known as a "jack-of-all-trades and a master of them all," Jim's skills were as remarkable as his ability to make everyone feel welcome and cherished. However, it is his legacy as a devoted husband, father, and grandfather that will shine the brightest.
Jim is survived by his loving wife, Cris Kunz; his daughter, Jessica Trujillo; his sons, Jason Kunz (Sebina) and Justin Kunz (Brittany); and 10 grandchildren, Bryan, Vanessa, Andre, Ciarah, Karyssa, Ena, Kynslee, Jeremiah, Kade and Elayna. He was also blessed with two great-granddaughters, Luna and Lyra Garcia, who brought him immense joy. He was eager to meet his next great-granddaughter, Peyton Kunz, who is due to be born in April.
Services for Jim will be held on Monday, November 4, 2024, at Our Lady of Belen Catholic Church. A visitation will take place at 9:00 am, followed by a eulogy at 9:30 am. A mass will then be recited in Jim's name at 10:00 am. Jim will then be laid to rest at the Our lady of Belen Memorial Gardens immediately following the mass.
Pallbearers will be Jason Kunz, Justin Kunz, Andre Kunz, Jerry Kunz, Bryan Garcia, and Chris Griego.
Arrangements are being handled by the caring professionals at the Noblin Funeral Service Belen Chapel, where an online guest register is available at www.noblin.com
